Inevitably, one little thing leads to another, and another, and another. Each larger than the one before. Many trips to an old fashioned hardware store will fill your time for weeks to come. You’ll spend more time talking to the old guy who knows where everything is at than actually shopping.
It is suggested to put a piece of adhesive tape on the wall and nail through it. This keeps the paint from cracking. If your wallboard cracks, you have a whole ’nother problem. :)

Proper tool use is not to be overlooked. A drill might be considered.
