It’s a lot more than 5 bucks nowadays…

I first started drinking coffee on my job in college. The boss would send me across the street to get him a cup of black coffee. He did not like black coffee, but he liked getting his money’s worth more… we worked in a supermarket and he would grab a can of evaporated milk. He take a sip of coffee and add milk, and repeat until it was the way he liked it. But he got a full cup, dammit!

I feel, hundreds of years ago, someone said “I really like drinking milk with sugar, but people make fun of me. There has to be something I can add that will stop that.”

And you’ll probably have to put the muffin on a ‘buy now, pay later’ plan.

I need to stay awake because the goats won’t settle down. What is keeping them awake and jumpy?

That coffee that cost 25 cents was terrible. Just awful. Cafe Americano was code around the world for “brown liquid that tastes like paint.” Yes, coffee costs a lot more now, but it tastes much better.

Also, don’t ignore inflation. That 25 cents from when I was a kid is now almost $2. And inflation isn’t some newfangled invention — I remember my dad complaining that coffee used to be a nickel.

If you want to recreate the old days, get the cheapest instant coffee you can find at a discount grocery store, use half the recommended amount, and then boil it for 5 hours in a percolator that hasn’t been cleaned for years. Yum!
