Ebonics is actually a creole. A mixing of two languages (which is a pidgin), that is learned from birth, so treated as a ‘mother tongue’.
Creoles often have their own syntax, verb forms, pronunciations, etc. that are different from the parent language(s).
It’s just that, in Ebonics’ case, the two languages are English and, uh, Ebonics.
