HAH! Chaplin was a perfectionist who took hundreds of takes to make his character not look the fool. The Little Tramp was always, always the smartest guy in the room. He could not adapt to sound and his ephebophilia caught up to him. Put him behind, and in front, of a silent camera with a 17 year old leading lady and he could be genius.
