Many years ago I asked my son, “Why aren’t you doing your homework?” He answered, “Because I don’t want to.” Not the response I wanted (“I’ll get on it now.”), but in fact the truth.
I realized I’d taught him honesty, but I needed to learn to either ask the right questions, or just tell him to do his homework.
