I’m intrigued by both the OldManMountain and Jazzlily comments. I too have had the thought that Walt might be leaving us– given his age. And I do wonder about Gertie’s history, though the possibility of past mistreatment hadn’t occurred to me, Jazzlily. I think Gertie is a widow.

I’ll bet there’s a surprise resolution coming. Maybe Earl really is rich. Maybe poor old Walt will die and Gertie will have to move on.
