As a counter-example: I once had housemates who owned a very dangerous cat named “The Hunger”. She attacked most everyone, but not me (the secret was to not let her see your hands, it was actually safe to pet her with your face). We moved apart. I then visited them for the first time in maybe 7 years or so. The Hunger was a senior citizen by then. When I walked in, this antagonistic kitty let out a “mrp”, walked up, and nudged my face.
