Worth rewatching – it’s on youtube. Lou Costello’s performance and timing was impeccable.

    I feel that w & y are always vowels. Maybe that’s a Welsh gene.

Slowly I turn, step by step, inch by inch… (Reflex when I see Abbot & Costello mentioned. Also that was their bit not The Three Stooges, I never saw the Stooges version til 2018)

In English, ‘R’ is sometimes used as a vowel.

This is a simplification, but a thumbrule for determining what is a vowel is by singing the word. When you sing the word “bird,” the letter you sing is R.

    Random Musings:

Give her a break, teacher! She knows who Abbott and Costello were — how many of her generation can say that?

I’ve seen the routine many times, but I still laughed when I saw it at the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, about a year and a half ago.

A few years ago I was teaching a class how to work with tables in MS Word. For fun, I made the table a baseball team’s roster, using the player names from the A&C routine. Most of the students didn’t recognize what I was doing (many, though they were from the right generation to have known A&C, were also from other countries, and therefore had less familiarity with American pop culture). So when the lesson was over, I pulled up the video on Youtube and we all watched it.
