Expiration dates… It’s not “safe to eat” date, or not even “it tastes best”, it’s “it looks best if eaten beofre” date. It’s shocking how much food is wasted simply because people don’t have a slightest idea how food spoilage works, and what those dates on the packaging actually mean.
Back packing through the wilds of Idaho, we came across a huge raspberry bush right next to a stream. The berries were larger than my thumb, and perfectly ripe. We picked and ate our share and then more to make syrup for our breakfast. The remainder was stashed in our supplies box and forgotten about till the following season. Over the year the syrup fermented. We tasted it, just to see, and ended up drinking it. It was pretty good!
