Must not have been to a library recently. Most libraries now have some kind of audiovisual room where children are entertained with loud movies and the door is never closed. I have not heard of anyone being shushed in several decades.
Libraries have definitely changed. I could not believe I had to pass through a metal detector to enter the public library in Phoenix. Who takes a gun to a library? (Don’t answer)
Retired as a reference librarian at a major public university in 2010 and by that time the entire reference room had been converted to a computer lab and you could go days without touching a book (google and digital data bases only) and more than once I suggested a student use a paper journal and the student refused and insisted on digital only.
Did you hear the one about the blond who walks into a library and says “I’ll have a large fries, cheeseburger, and a large coke”. The librarian says “ma’am! This is a library!” The blond replies in a whisper “oh, I’m sorry… I’ll have a large fries….”

It has always seemed to me that a library would be a peaceful place to work.
