Our cable went out. My wife was appalled when I suggested a book. I pointed out my newspaper and book club accounts were less than her cable. Oh well, the couch is comfortable
TV’s way too expensive for what I watch - but I need the satelite for my NFL Sunday Ticket. Otherwise a good book will beat today’s programming any time.
If you want books and bad puns, may I suggest the Xanth series? More squishy rotten puns, including ant ones, that you will ever imagine. Of course, with close to 30 books in the series, it will keep you away from the TV for a while.
i read constantly (never go anywhere without a book), and decided to keep track, last year, of how many i read (because of something in the “interview” segment on Jeopardy). turned out i was averaging nearly 2 books a week. when my coworkers comment on my speed at crossword puzzles, i tell them it’s because i read so much my vocabulary is huge. i get antsy if i have less than a half dozen in my “new books” pile.
In addition, “The Complete Works of Shakespeare”, the entirety of ElfQuest, the Aleppo Codex (Hebrew), the Codex Sinaticus (Greek), just to name those I’ve run across recently.

You’d be neither if you tried reading a book. Why, you can even read some online these days. :)

And his get-up-and-go is a little stagn-ant.
They’re weird ants anyway. A colony of like, three.

I remember that time. Then I started reading classics and couldn’t stop.
@stargazer - Good question! Clasped behind his back, maybe?
