Used to be, baseball started first week of April. Our minor league team is starting the season on March 29th. Lucky for them, it is expected to be 60 and partly cloudy.

Last year, our magnolia bloomed when the redbud and dogwood did. This year— it bloomed 3 weeks early—and yes, now it’s covered with frost-zapped flowers. (The difference is the native plants bloom based on the daylength, while the non-native magnolia buds out whenever the temps go up—spring, fall, sometimes even in the winter.) It’s a persistent plant. Once the dead flowers fall off, it is likely to put out more buds.
