Not all that surprising; we’re still human (at least I am) and it takes a long time for a person to change a character trait - imagine how long it takes several million!
When young men were drafted every family had concerns about these casual wars and voted accordingly. Now it seems we have an army of paid mercenaries and families like “Bush” don’t need to worry about their sons being dragged off and being killed. Come to think of it, those big money families didn’t worry anyway, just about the taxes!!
