Except cars aren’t directly linked with death and disease unless in case of accidents or willful destruction. Big tobacco willfully tried to cover up the nasty side of their business and aimed their ads at young people because they knew they had to replenish their consumer base since smoking tends to kill people off more quickly. Nowadays, the necessary health info about smoking should be wide spread enough for people to understand what they’re getting themselves into, but there’s still certainly the question of ethics, health care costs, what the company’s responsibility is, etc. You have a stronger argument with guns than with tobacco companies.
How about we just take responsibility for our actions instead of saying someone else made us do it?___________________________________
EXACTLY! But the current state of our culture an’ society encourages everyone to be a victim first an’ always – and to be responsible never. We are in a very bad way in this nation, and it is getting worse…
Congratulations to those who are quitting. I wish you continued success.
Five years after my last cigarette, I one day realized that I was still declining invitations to smoke by saying, “No, thanks, I’m trying to quit.” Today, I can’t stand to even pass a smoker in Walmart. This October will be 35 years.
Congrats to all who have quit or who are in the process of quitting smoking. More power to you.The tobacco companies’ playbook, consisting of the “Big Lie,” has been taken over by the global warming deniers. Google the Luntz memo, or read any of the reputable, science-based books on global warming. As always, the corporations put profits first, second, and third, and human health and environmental protection nowhere on the list.
