Actually, that was one of the biggest debates amongst the framers (State vs federal power) While I still believe the state should be sovereign, it seems the people have allowed the feds to have control. Remember, during the country’s early years, the federalists were the ones who held office, and this was the will of the people.
So how would the states rights folks like to have it. Should the U.S. be essentially a 50 small nations loosely bound together as a union essentially for defense with a common military to which all contribute. Sure would make interstate commerce a pain in the ass.
