OK, LuvH8. If I give you the Nuc coffee, you stand at the furthest end of the BT, away from the fish. I will stay here near the fish so that you don’t get any ideas.
Thank you Grog, I do like the flavor of Johanan’s CocoMocha better, it just doesn’t have the same kick. Maybe if I switch I will start to sleep at night?
Whaddaya mean, my CocoMocha doesn’t have the same kick? Depends on whether I let the starter culture sit in the dilithium chamber for about a month first.
I don’t claim it has the same intelligence, though. There are no recorded examples of it coming when one whistles, for example.
I notice I write “cutesy” comments till I hit BT and get my first hit of DOC’S NUC COFFEE.Is it the bitterness of the brew or the supercharging of my normal disagreeable self? By the time I hit Doonesbury, I’ve gone beyond curmudgeon and into acidic.
WARNING! DOC’S NUC COFFEE may have side affects that include sarcasm, ridicule, and an inability to keep one’s big mouth shut. Other patients have experienced pleasure, euphoria, and a constant smile. Effects may vary.
Hello everyone I had trouble sleeping that seems strange concedering what type of meds I take from a pain Dr. I see days after the 4th. I want to start getting off of them then see what side effects I have. I take for pain, nerve and muscel. I have improve. Someone wanted coffee. I don’t drink it but my hubby does.
And my hubby is starting to come out of it more from HC. At least he has no trouble at all sleeping and never has. One time he tried to prove a point that he did, to me he wasted his time. What is it with us older women instead of something (older ones guess to yourself that something which I never had but heard of because of the men you don’t have to type it) we loose sleep?
We seem to be in a cycle: days not too bad, but growing muggier and hotter as the sun heads west, and then long, severe thunderstorms at night. Two days and counting; today is more of the same, then we get a day or two off, and than back to thunderboomers. And each day the “day off” gets delayed by 24 hours…
Hi, tribe! - I don’t know whether to say good morning or afternoon, since it is 3 till here.
Kab is right - I heard 99F is the expected high for today. But at least there’s a decent breeze which helps some, especially if you can stay in the shade. I’m doing even better - staying inside with the central a/c!
Good Afternoon Grog and ALL. Just fineshed doing dishes (from yesterday) making tea and will soon fix lunch. Hope cleokaya gets better soon and is able to post a picture of his new sculpture soon as I would like to see it. bmonk - I have A/C and enjoy it! (althogh I can’t feel the heat much now, probably need it, but don’t set it too low as I can get too cold easily.)
bmonk - that’s just not nice. (pouting) At least we have a swamp cooler that helps some. Just praying the pump will hold out until I get paid on Friday.
bmonk - I’ve spent more than one summer living in a place without a/c - temps over 100F are horrible without it. Since I can’t remember a summer it didn’t get over 100F at least once, an a/c can literally be a lifesaver here in KS. I can’t think of a building built here since about 1970 that doesn’t have it.
ldyhwkd - go to pibgorn through search and there is a link to type controls. #, ##, ### is used for size at begining of line, but only that line, use a return after it (?)
Warning - trivial comment
A/C was invented by a doctor for malaria patients. It was laughed at as needless. (not to mention refrigarators, freezers etc. coming from it.)
LuvH8, you are singled out because you seem to be the only one having accidents. Don’t think of it as special treatment, as I would say the same to anyone else who even so much as spilled a drop of the stuff.
Grog ~ The only ‘accident’ was the time you pushed me. The rest of the ‘incidents’ were just unfortunate results of experimentation. Well, okay some of the were unfortunate lack of thinking before acting, but the fish and the skylight are both pretty cool. The couch accomadates more people as it grows and now we have guard flowers.
Ldyhwkd ~ The backslash \ symbol is used to keep one of the command codes from working. It is usually only used to give instructions on how to do commands & stuff like that. I wouldn’t worry about it until you want to tell people how to do stuff.
LuvH8 - Thanks for doing a better job then I tried, I tried to keep typing to a minimum and did’t do a very good job. By the way, did yelling Squirre!!!!! chase it away?
I only jumped in because I didn’t see any other answers, I guess doing a much better job just took longer to post. I remember trying to figure what to do and appreciated the help I got.
LuvH8, I think you’ve been saying that so long that you actually believed that I pushed you. But it couldn’t be further from the truth. As I remember it, you tripped over your own feet.
P.S. - I tried using the >’s for indenting. Had trouble getting it to work right and then found out when I did have it working it didn’t look the same to someone not logged in so I stop using it for now.
I usually practice on a strip that is a few days or more old until I get things right when I am learning new skills. Oh by the way, I kept a copy of the instructions for posting an image if anyone ever needs help with that again. (That way I can just paste the instructions in and look like I am a smart cookie.)
Thanks for the info of posting on a strip a few days old. I usually post and then deleat ASAP until I get it to work. I was indenting while using special characters and they would not always come out right. When I did get it to work, when logged out the sprcial characters would jump to other lines, then when logged in it would be correct! Just wondering, if using Photobucket to refer pictures to, will a free account be able to handle the monthly useage limit for for a small amount of pictures or would I need to purchase an account there?
I use a free account and have no problem. I don’t know all the details. You can also post pictures from photobucket that are not in your account profile. I also post from google images, and other places. You can post many of the pictures you find.
I’m finally freed from the clutches of Algebra for the rest of the day! It is a pain trying to remember which buttons to push in which order on the scientific calculator.
Grog - Are you still around? I just found out that my hubby & I are going to make a quick trip to Houston this week.
We’re just going to drive down Thursday, buy a truck and drive back on Friday. I’m not sure exactly where the truck is at. Once I find out what part of town, maybe you can meet us for a good steak dinner?
@ldyhwkd, I was just blowing a raspberry at anyone lucky enough to have a conditioned air. We make do with natural air (open the windows at night when it’s cool; close in the day when it gets hot)–except that sometimes it doesn’t get very cool at night, or it rains for several nights in a row, making it hard to cool things off without getting everything wet…
by the way:
***
will give a horizontal line to separate your post into sections.
the *s and _s work in pairs, before and after a group of words–only they don’t work on two letter words or sections. Such as *Hi*. To do that, you need to make it three letters, by including the “.” in the *s: Hi. Or else use a non-breaking space, but that’s class two.
Or just pick it up as needed, over at the GoComics Style Guide–you can bookmark/favorite that page, but it’s also found–albeit not as conveniently as once upon a time–near the beginning of the Pibgorn comments in the “boilerplate” post.
Edit: to get the formatting right, I hope. Another quirk of this site: the first posting and editing of a comment removes all the special formatting dingbats, like #s and *s, not to mention embedded links–but after that they stay for some reason. Go figure.
It all depends on location, Rmom I probably live closer to Galveston than I do to downtown Houston. (It certainly takes me less time to get there). So if your on the north side near say The Woodlands or worse, yet, Conroe, that’s a long drive. I’ve driven to Conroe during the best of times and it takes about 1.5 hours. I hate to think of what it would be like during rush hour.
Grog - If it happens to be too far from where you are, maybe you at least could give us a good restaurant recommendation? I’m thinking with the limited time available, that’s going to be our only entertainment. I know Texas has good steaks, so that’s probably the best genre to suggest.
Some pretty good sea food too, but it may be a little pricey right about now.
I’m not one to go out for steaks an more due to diet, but I hear the Saltgrass Steak House is very good.
I don’t eat red meat that often any more (due to cholesterol) and other issues, and I keep the servings sizes pretty small as a result (unfortunately) when I do eat them. I just finished the last of my ribeyes this week-end. It was very good of course. But I still have a freezer full of pork ribs I’m working on - again keeping serving sizes small.
But I will be nice about it since I now know how to do new stuff. Even though you didn’t complete Class 2 and I had to figure some of it out for myself.
Looks like NW of downtown Houston, so guess that won’t work very well. I’ll eat shrimp and he’ll eat lobster, but neither one of us is that crazy about it. We both like filets and sirloins, and Outback Steakhouse has great steaks. However, we like going to other steakhouses, but don’t want to get a chewy steak. BBQ is another possibility.
I’ll look up Saltgrass Steak House and see if there’s one nearby.
Thanks!
I just looked up the Saltgrass Steak House website. There appears to be a location within reasonable distance. I agree, pricey, but since it will be just the two of us (our sons are staying home), I’m inclined to splurge. It really gets expensive when we go out for steak, if all 4 of us eat.
Thank you all. Being home-schooled in computers (no book, no co-workers to coach) I have been floundering along till the fine folk at BT have taught me many tricks on this typewriter with no return bar. Now if someone could teach me not to put my foot in my mouth, I could use it on more than this bleepity bleep machine. Like gender, I used a his addressing LUVH8 and a she addressing CLEO. If you can’t teach me that, please tell me where the automatic bonehead undo button is that I can press everyday. Thank you for your patience and tolerance.
@ldyhwkd, I hoped so, but, while we don’t need the Air up here on the tundra for long–usually only a few weeks a year–that only means it’s usually not worth it to get it for just those few weeks. So we suffer, until the heat goes away.
It’s a lot easier to heat air than cool it anyway…
Rmom - it’s defianately good for just the two of you. We took the family (5 - incl. one teen) once when I received a nice gift certificate, and my daugher (7) was very impressed. They would love to go again, but it will likely be a while before we take them again. Especially because I am now trying to save for a cross-country road trip next summer.
bmonk - I knew there were smart phones, but I didn’t realize they had gotten that smart!
I’ve got a rock that says “The only time I open my mouth is to change feet”.
I may have to get that app…
ldyhwkd - Our 17 year old will be disappointed, as he loves to eat steaks. Which is one reason we don’t go out for steak locally without the kids. At least with the road trip to get there & back, he won’t be begging to tag along. The other son isn’t as crazy about steaks, but he’s found that steakhouses tend to have very good hamburgers, so if one son comes, both usually do.
ldyhwkd - Not saying we won’t end up taking a cross-country trip, but there aren’t any plans for one soon. We’ve been talking about buying a truck for months, but had to wait until I had enough inheritance available and to find one that fit our criteria. Other times we’ve bought vehicles out-of-state, I’ve flown out, and driven them back. But I think we’re planning on towing the car we drive there with the truck, so we can save on airfare. I’m not crazy about driving a large truck with towing anything (especially parking), so that’s part of the reason hubby is going. He could probably do it without me, but having two drivers might come in handy, since he has to be back at work early Saturday.
Bmonk - Since my Dad raised beef cattle, we’re rather accustomed to having good beef to eat. Thankfully there are enough farmers in the area, we can usually find one to buy a side of beef directly from them, so it is pretty economical too. But it is work to get the charcoals hot & hard to get the steaks cooked to perfection. Easier for a restaurant that can set up standard procedures.
Lewreader ~ you are certainly not the only person to think I wasn’t a girl. I thought about putting the word girl on my avatar, but decided I didn’t care that much. Besides, I don’t recall you calling me a he. If you hadn’t just told me you would have been fine.
Bmonk ~ I am pretty sure you still know more than me about formatting. About the A/C I seem to remember a joke about offerring it up. (even though I didn’t get the joke) You could do that?
Rmom, I agree. And I also feel that buying local, even from restaurants, is the best way to get good food–unless you are at a fast food place, and then they try hard to make it equally tasteless everywhere. But on the coast I try seafood, on the Plains I go for beef, in Illinois I look for corn on the cob…
Oh, yes, we do offer it up, or endure. My favorite response when someone asks how hot it is wearing a couple extra layers of clothing (liturgical vestments) is, “Oh, it goes away in an hour or so.”
That’s too bad you’ll be on the Northwest side, Rmom. There was a place located in Kemah, even I wanted to try since a saw it a couple weeks ago on D,D&D called T-Bone Tom’s
@Rmom, it has happened, but not as often as you might think. People grow acclimated quickly. I like to say, 40º in October is a lot colder than 40º in March! (And, similarly, 85º in June is hotter than 85º in September.)
@LuvH8, I had a similar suggestion for a sports habit back when I was a novice–knee-length skirts and tank-tops.
Grog - I’ll let you know if I’m wrong about the location. My hubby’s making the hotel reservations, etc. and he usually emails me a copy so I can have it for my reference. T-Bone Tom’s does look like a great restaurant to try!
Rmom - I’m planning a trip for our family next summer. Going from Colorado to North Carolina for my brother’s 50th Birthday. Since we don’t have the most reliable vehicles, we will be renting something reasonable. Add gas and such and that’s why I am saving up now.
Hi, Terry! Good to see you! I just wasn’t feeling up to doing more yesterday than I absolutely had to. Not quite as bad today, but haven’t gotten up the energy to do much extra work, either.
ldyhwkd - If you’ve got to rent a vehicle, that will definitely add to the cost of the trip. Our “best” vehicle has 150,000+ miles, but with AAA & a husband who understands auto mechanical stuff, we don’t let high mileage stop us. What has gone up a lot in the last few years is the cost of motels. We do belong to an organization that gets us a great discount, and with the frequent stayer program, it helps. I now understand why we stayed with relatives or friends when my family went on road trips when I was a kid.
GROG I called Dan, Mr Reynolds four posts before he told us to call him Dan. This and the faces are telling me I might be psycho, er psychic.. Where do you buy crystal balls TRIBE?
And here I thought Birdbrains was the major contributor, Lewreader. I noticed that you had called him Mr. Reynolds. Also noticed that he didn’t give the number of his lawyer, but did address a certain someone’s comments who will not be named here.
What I think could be interesting is if this poster got banned. Most trolls probably come up with another name and sign up again after they’ve been kicked off. Since he prides himself on not “hiding behind a false name” he would have a dilemma.
I notice I write “cutesy” comments till I hit BT and get my first hit of DOC’S NUC COFFEE.Is it the bitterness of the brew or the supercharging of my normal disagreeable self? By the time I hit Doonesbury, I’ve gone beyond curmudgeon and into acidic.

bmonk - I’ve spent more than one summer living in a place without a/c - temps over 100F are horrible without it. Since I can’t remember a summer it didn’t get over 100F at least once, an a/c can literally be a lifesaver here in KS. I can’t think of a building built here since about 1970 that doesn’t have it.

So you are saying I am not any more unsafe around Nuclear Coffee than anyone else? Could you tell that to Grog?
What do you have to say to someone who has A/C but doesn’t need it because it is only about 62 degrees outside and 65 inside?

Warning - trivial comment A/C was invented by a doctor for malaria patients. It was laughed at as needless. (not to mention refrigarators, freezers etc. coming from it.)

bmonk over 14 years ago
@ldyhwkd, I was just blowing a raspberry at anyone lucky enough to have a conditioned air. We make do with natural air (open the windows at night when it’s cool; close in the day when it gets hot)–except that sometimes it doesn’t get very cool at night, or it rains for several nights in a row, making it hard to cool things off without getting everything wet…
by the way: *** will give a horizontal line to separate your post into sections. the *s and _s work in pairs, before and after a group of words–only they don’t work on two letter words or sections.
Go figure.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
It all depends on location, Rmom I probably live closer to Galveston than I do to downtown Houston. (It certainly takes me less time to get there). So if your on the north side near say The Woodlands or worse, yet, Conroe, that’s a long drive. I’ve driven to Conroe during the best of times and it takes about 1.5 hours. I hate to think of what it would be like during rush hour.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
But yes do let me know, Rmom
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Grog - If it happens to be too far from where you are, maybe you at least could give us a good restaurant recommendation? I’m thinking with the limited time available, that’s going to be our only entertainment. I know Texas has good steaks, so that’s probably the best genre to suggest.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Some pretty good sea food too, but it may be a little pricey right about now.
I’m not one to go out for steaks an more due to diet, but I hear the Saltgrass Steak House is very good.
I don’t eat red meat that often any more (due to cholesterol) and other issues, and I keep the servings sizes pretty small as a result (unfortunately) when I do eat them. I just finished the last of my ribeyes this week-end. It was very good of course. But I still have a freezer full of pork ribs I’m working on - again keeping serving sizes small.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
Bmonk I added the guide. (pouts)
But I will be nice about it since I now know how to do new stuff. Even though you didn’t complete Class 2 and I had to figure some of it out for myself.

Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Looks like NW of downtown Houston, so guess that won’t work very well. I’ll eat shrimp and he’ll eat lobster, but neither one of us is that crazy about it. We both like filets and sirloins, and Outback Steakhouse has great steaks. However, we like going to other steakhouses, but don’t want to get a chewy steak. BBQ is another possibility. I’ll look up Saltgrass Steak House and see if there’s one nearby. Thanks!
ldyhwkd over 14 years ago
Thanks Bmonk - and I took no offense about your a/c comment - just had to send it back your way.
Rmom we have a Saltgrass Steak House here in Denver. It’s excellent, but a bit pricey. When we are splurging it’s a favorite of my hubby and I though.
bmonk over 14 years ago
@LuvH8, there’s plenty of formatting I don’t know yet–never really had to learn it.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago

Thank you for your patience and tolerance.
bmonk over 14 years ago
@ldyhwkd, I hoped so, but, while we don’t need the Air up here on the tundra for long–usually only a few weeks a year–that only means it’s usually not worth it to get it for just those few weeks. So we suffer, until the heat goes away.
It’s a lot easier to heat air than cool it anyway…
ldyhwkd over 14 years ago
Rmom - it’s defianately good for just the two of you. We took the family (5 - incl. one teen) once when I received a nice gift certificate, and my daugher (7) was very impressed. They would love to go again, but it will likely be a while before we take them again. Especially because I am now trying to save for a cross-country road trip next summer.
bmonk over 14 years ago
@Lewreader, I have yet to find any automatic undo (bonehead) button–but we do have an app for your phone to remove foot-in-mouth problems.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
bmonk - I knew there were smart phones, but I didn’t realize they had gotten that smart! I’ve got a rock that says “The only time I open my mouth is to change feet”. I may have to get that app…
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
ldyhwkd - Our 17 year old will be disappointed, as he loves to eat steaks. Which is one reason we don’t go out for steak locally without the kids. At least with the road trip to get there & back, he won’t be begging to tag along. The other son isn’t as crazy about steaks, but he’s found that steakhouses tend to have very good hamburgers, so if one son comes, both usually do.
bmonk over 14 years ago
@Rmom–if they don’t have one, they should.
I feel about Chinese (or Thai, or Vietnamese) much as your son feels about steak.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
ldyhwkd - Not saying we won’t end up taking a cross-country trip, but there aren’t any plans for one soon.

Lew patience and tolerance for what? Think nothing of it, sir!!! :-D It’s hard to tell whose who sometimes.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Bmonk - Since my Dad raised beef cattle, we’re rather accustomed to having good beef to eat. Thankfully there are enough farmers in the area, we can usually find one to buy a side of beef directly from them, so it is pretty economical too. But it is work to get the charcoals hot & hard to get the steaks cooked to perfection. Easier for a restaurant that can set up standard procedures.

Bmonk ~ I am pretty sure you still know more than me about formatting. About the A/C I seem to remember a joke about offerring it up. (even though I didn’t get the joke) You could do that?
bmonk over 14 years ago
Rmom, I agree. And I also feel that buying local, even from restaurants, is the best way to get good food–unless you are at a fast food place, and then they try hard to make it equally tasteless everywhere. But on the coast I try seafood, on the Plains I go for beef, in Illinois I look for corn on the cob…
bmonk over 14 years ago
Oh, yes, we do offer it up, or endure. My favorite response when someone asks how hot it is wearing a couple extra layers of clothing (liturgical vestments) is, “Oh, it goes away in an hour or so.”
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
bmonk - Do you have much of a problem with people wearing liturgical vestments fainting when it gets hot?
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
It is a balmy 71 degrees here! That is shorts and tank top weather.
Maybe you guys can get them to make kilt-length liturgical vestments? Then there could be slightly less enduring.

@Rmom, it has happened, but not as often as you might think. People grow acclimated quickly. I like to say, 40º in October is a lot colder than 40º in March! (And, similarly, 85º in June is hotter than 85º in September.)
