From Not Always Right: Drawn To The Art

(I’m walking with my godson at the seaside, where some abstract sculptures are exhibited.)

Godson: “Auntie, is that art or garbage?”

Me: “I don’t know honey. Why don’t you take a look? If it has got a title, it is art. If it hasn’t, then it is junk.”

Godson: “So, if I collect junk at random at grandpa’s shed and give it a title it becomes art?

Me: “I guess so…”

(Sure enough, some of the sculptures have lost their label. I have a difficult time explaining that all that artistically arranged driftwood is considered art.)

Monty, you’re an idiot.

An awful lot of creative and skilled, but uneducated, people seem to think ‘abstract’ means ‘obscure’: that if you paint or photograph something in a way that makes it look distorted or difficult to see what it is then it’s abstract. It’s not. Picasso said — and I’m not going to argue with HIM — that abstract art is not representational. Monty has it right!

Monty should sell his new work, the x’ed out apple will thrill the Art World!

This guy reminds me of the Farmer from the Shaun the Sheep animated show.

Nah, HUNTER says, “it’s easy peasy”.

I am no art expert, but it seems to me that all abstract art should suggest something relatable to each observer.

Seriously, I once had an old paint rag that was a dead ringer for a Jackson Pollack.

It’s a fruitless endeavor.

To bend the rules, you have to understand the rules. All that perspective, anatomy, etc. is called “craft”.

Love his beret. Happy little trees, here we come! :)

I can’t believe Monty and EB didn’t travel to see the Eclipse! I’m sure some humor could be found in that storyline. :-)
