    On the flip side, I’ve turned down the radio to better smell something unusual. (Hopefully just roasted bugs caught in the heat and ventilation system.)

    That’s the advice Tom and Ray Magliozzi always used to give on Car Talk. They also said if your check engine light comes on put black electrician tape over it.

    I hardly play my vehicle radio at all. I like to hear all the sounds that surround me while I’m driving so I can hear any sirens or screeching tires or horn blasts or any other potential hazard you can encounter while driving. And most of all I just enjoy the silence and peace and quiet of my surroundings ( when there are no hazardous sounds see above) and my own thoughts.
