Iām with Claude. There is a huge supply of diamonds of all colors in the ground. The marketing has been incredibly successful in creating a pretense of rare jewels. My dog poops diamonds too.
I know I posted a little rant about so-called āchocolateā diamonds when this first ranā¦.
pretty sure it was before January of ā17ā¦ so itās beyond retrieval.
Ā
So, to reiterate, sort ofā¦
in spite of all the ads, and even the article Alexi linked to, which is written by a diamond dealer, after allā¦.
Chocolate diamonds are a new category of what used to all be lumped together as ābrownā diamondsā¦
the most common diamonds on earth, far outnumbering gemstone quality white onesā¦.
theyāre the low-quality, industrial stonesā¦.
ground for edging saw blades and suchā¦. chips are put into watch movementsā¦. theyāre used for their hardness, not their appearance.
Ā
Somebody at a company called Viansa had the clever marketing idea of pulling out the clearest and most fiery they could findā¦.
out of what is still a batch of unsaleable brown diamonds,
cutting and polishing them, and calling them ārareā when they are anything but.
Ā
The writer of that article says youāre paying a lot because theyāre ādesignerā gemsā¦.
and you shouldnāt be concerned about intrinsic value.
You know what I call thatā¦ but I canāt say it here.
Ā
Yes, theyāre way cheaper than white diamondsā¦ but weāre still talking thousands of dollars.
Prices like that are supposed to be based on rarity.
White diamonds are somewhat artificially rare because mining is controlled by De Beersā¦. a whole different story of corruption and other nasty vices.
Industrial brown diamonds gave the Viansa company a way to circumvent that controlled market,
and produce āgemsā from widely available leftoversā¦
and create their own ārarityā by owning the trademark.
Ā
You can buy a nice brown topaz for very little.
Yes, brown diamonds if carefully selected can be prettierā¦. but NOT thousands of dollars prettier, IMO.
I think poor Clara believes all the advertising poop about brown diamonds. Iāll bet sheād be interested in that bridge the jeweler has for sale, too.

Meanwhileā¦. you know why, Reggie.
You canāt hunt for your own yak or beefā¦. or cook it yourself.
You canāt drive the car, or turn on the television.
Ā
And letās face itā¦. itās embarrassing, but you kindaā¦ wellā¦. love them.Youāre a dog. You just canāt help it.

A chocolate diamond by any other name would (not) smell as expensive.
