It could also explain the skittish behavior of the neighbors as well.

    As for Canadian cuisine.

    One word: Moose.

moose steaks, mooseburgers, moose stew, moose a l’orange, moose fritters, moose (pot) pie, moosecakes, moose pate, …………………..

The local birdies do not like to see a Great Tufted Peckerhead 6 inches from their birdhouse.

Cleo has the right idea. But in this space we have discussed meat pies, poutine, and Canadian beer. And don’t forget butter tarts and Nanaimo bars.

    Hi, everybody!

From New Orleans, overnight, to the Cliffords in Cleveland, and Canadian cuisine….

We’re here again to comment on

the Mar 6th  2019 “CLEO and COMPANY”

    on Sherpa http://www.comicssherpa.com/site/feature?uc_comic=cscwy

It’s been years since I’ve had Canadian cooking.

Waaay back, as a poor student visiting Vancouver, I lived on pirogi’s in tiny hole-in-the wall cafes near the train station….

sometimes dark roast coffee and pastries in tiny hole -in-the wall cafes in the Italian district… and I never heard of poutine then.

(My sister later lived in the Italian District… until she and all her neighbors were evicted. We watched beautiful old apartment buildings ripped apart by wrecking balls…. I’m still sad. But I digress…. )

She’s lived in Victoria since then. I always thought that the variety of fresh food available there was less than here, but the quality was noticeably better…

California is famous for dairy…. and growing things like avocados and artichokes when they’re rare elsewhere…. but our farms tend to be huge and commercial…

Stuff like blueberries, strawberries, chicken, milk and ice cream seemed fresher in BC, with more… I dunno…. old-fashioned (?) flavor.

Maybe not any more, with agriculture becoming more globalised,

and now, we have small, “boutique” farms raising specialty produce, that I can’t afford anyway.

But this restaurant is in Cleveland … so the difference is moot.

Just get me a couple of Nanaimo bars if they have them, OK?

Grog…. Molson’s just fine if you like bland, watery Coors-type lager. But… um… no thanks.

My backyard birds are hiding out too. But it’s the day after day of rain.

And I’m writing all this cos I’m waiting for my internet to come back… can’t post or open another page…. till now… maybe….

Couple of quick (I hope) things ….

Montana Lady…. hope things are OK. You’re on my mind.

    Everybody….

I’m pretty sure most of you also read the current Ballard Street…. but for those who don’t, yesterday’s forum might be interesting.

Jerry Van A is apparently retiring at the end of March…. Ballard Street is “ending” and people are panicking.

I played along with it at first… but I realised people really were saying goodbye.

So… I just want to say don’t worry, if you hear all that.

I think the “new” strip will stay in the same place, only with re-runs…

and our little crew will stay right here….unless, by some miracle, we get the brand new Sherpa page on GoComics, as promised, where we can comment directly on Cleo and Company.

    And Jless… cos you asked… I think I just answered your question….

but IF, for some reason, we do have to move…. Cleo is not my strip.

Anybody can make suggestions, and in fact, I did suggest this spot…. but Nighthawks, and probably StelBel, would decide.

Funny about your suggestion of Herman, though… that’s a re-run strip too…. I think Ballard Street is just as likely to be running.

And the reason I suggested it in the first place is that so many Cleo readers were already Ballard Street readers and knew StelBel from there….

others were from Citizen Dog or Andy Capp, and knew Nighthawks and/or Stel from those.

So if Ballard Street truly disappeared, I’d think we’d go to old pages on another strip Cleo readers already know and like… maybe Citizen Dog… which is on its third(?) run too.

    ’night, all….

Just stopping in long enough to say I’ve been reading all your supportive posts! MMM is very sick, and they’ll start him on the “big gun” antibiotics today.

Thanks for all your good thoughts and prayers, Family!
