The 1914 Poster is even more exciting than the last! The leaders are Andreo Bassetti and his “back seat driver” (strategist) Orecchia! Just 20 miles to go!
All must pay tribute to Charles Goodyear’s patent in 1844 for vulcanized rubber, as well as John Boyd Dunlop for pneumatic tires in 1888 (and Robert William Thomson in 1847). Without those, Their teeth would have fallen out after the first 50 miles.

Just a great poster, Stel. The hats, the goggles, the dust, the crowds in the infield and the grandstands, the ears flapping!

As for the advertised cheap thrill: Make certain he pays you the quarter before you set foot in the pool.

It doesn’t get much cheaper than that.

It does look like they’re going around in circles. And at warp nine, they’re going nowhere mighty fast.

Hi, everybody!
Once again, we’re commenting on a very seasonal poster, by StelBel…
in the May 23rd 2019 “CLEO and COMPANY”
See it on Sherpa
http://www.comicssherpa.com/site/feature?uc_comic=cscwy
That is to say, we’re still building up to the Indianapolis Basset 500.
Racing is in the air!
This one is beautiful, isn’t it?
I love the old cars….
and the clothes…
I still think it looks like a lady basset riding shotgun in the first car….
Usually that would be the mechanic.
But Dennis seems to have recognised them … and I think he meant they’re male.
You have to admire how StelBel, in her excess of perfectionism,
painted every little basset ear on all 18 thousand teeny spectators in the stands.
Right, Stel?
It’s really too bad that it’s too big for Sherpa at full resolution…..
all that work…. and you really can’t quite see it.
Just know it’s there.
Once again, the humans also had a race like this…
It’s not the same without all the nice long ears to flap in the wind:

Humans or bassets…. I think the old races would be more fun than modern ones.
Except for, you know, dangerous cars, and fatal crashes and stuff.
Speaking of fun and thrills…
I’m confused…. do we pay a quarter. or, as Liverlips says… get a quarter?
I guess it doesn’t matter…. not gonna do it.
Save your quarters for the coin-op carousel at Ballard Park…
I thought we could have a picnic.
I’ll bring sandwiches on fresh baked bagels…. I’ve got roast beef, cheddar, plain cream cheese, and salmon/cream cheese spread, and fixings.
Does anybody want to request any other kind?
Not ham… just can’t bring myself to do ham or bacon on a bagel.

That rider may be a mechanic but he (she) is also the navigator. You know, “Go left up here” “now go straight”.

And to think, that’s only the second time that she has passed all the other cars and there is still only 400 more miles to go in the race.

“Cheap thrill”? Last thrill maybe.
Good morning Balladeers and Miss Susan.
Can’t decide if I like today’s poster or Wednesday’s better.
