On the camping site my dad used to put water in his rubber raft for us children. At home mum filled up the old zinc tubes. But later the dads built a pool on the campingsite and we kids learned to swim. And were allowed to go to the local pool at home. Which I did not like. It was too noisy there for my liking.
Grew up in Saginaw MI in the 50s and 60s. They had the best city pool. Deep end with high and low dives was separate from the main pool and over 10’ deep. All went away after NAFTA and Globalization closed all the auto plants.

I remember running through the sprinklers when I was little.

When I was a kid, running through the sprinkler was the next best thing to a swimming pool.

Neither lifeguard or fence.

You had sprinklers. We had parents that might on occasion squirt us with a hose. You must have come from that rich side of town…..

Nowadays CPS would put your kids in foster care if you let them do that without adult supervision.
