I wonder if the economists really understand. There are so many ‘authorities’ and none seem to agreed.

Some years ago a guy claiming to be a stock analyst called me at work. He told me about a stock that he was sure would be going up in the next few weeks.

    This was a scam.

He probably had called a number of people using the company phone book, telling half of them that the stock would rise, the other half it would fall.

The stock probably fell, because I didn’t hear from him again.

He now would call the half that he had told it would rise and tell half of them about another stock that he thought would rise and tell the other half of them that he thought it would fall.

It didn’t matter that he knew nothing about the stock market.

He would keep this up until he had a list of people that he had been right with several times. These people would believe he was a genius when it came to the stock market and would be willing to invest through him. He would take their money and never be seen again.

This is an inverted pyramid scheme that costs the scammer just a phone bill for a couple of weeks and a list of phone numbers.
