Ah, yes. Memories of those book report days. Out of all the books I read for school, there was only two I wanted to read, yet there was another that turned out good. All the rest were like going to the dentist to me.
i never read any of the books on my summer reading lise , i just went to the library and got books i wanted to read, it just happened that some of them were on the stupid list
Being a homeschool mom, I wanted my kids to learn that watching the movie doesn’t substitute for reading the book. So, we would read the book first, then watch the movie. They were always disappointed at what the movie didn’t include, and one time it actually changed the villian. Movies are helpful to get a feel for the costumes, etc. of the time period, but books are best for the plot.
I didn’t read the summer list but I read all the time, and if a book showed up in the school curricula then I read it when I needed to. I still read all the time.
My school never had summer reading lists - that was a long time ago - but I was at the local library two or three times a week on my own. If we’d had a summer reading lise, I’d probably have polished it off in less than a week.
There’s a program called “Read a book, write a report, get a buck”.
Basically, they pay kids to read.
If they had a program like that when I was young, i would have made a fortune!
During the summers, I pretty much read a book a day.
I got an adult library card when I was 10.
I had finished the Children’s Library.

Summer reading? This does not compute.

For me, reading comics strips (then comic books) led me to want to read every book I could get my hands on.
