Yeah I call them tree rats. What good are they? They decimate the bird feeders, tear up potted plants trying to bury their acorns, they shredded my patio umbrella trying to jump up onto the roof, and tore the screening to get to a bag of birdseed on my lanai. Grrrrr
When I was attending the University of Washington decades (and decades) ago, there were a lot of squirrels on campus. I think people used to feed them because they certainly weren’t afraid of humans. I stopped to look at one years ago and the varmint suddenly ran up my pants—the outside of my pants, not inside them thank heavens!—and my shirt and sat on my shoulder. Totally freaked me out.
I froze and stayed perfectly still until he got bored and scampered back down.
Perhaps Lucy Van Pelt has a treatment for sciurophobia (fear of squirrels…I had to look it up) in her psychiatric repertoire. It might be worth it for McKenzie to look her up.

Squirrels eat chicken. I saw one taking chicken bones out of the trash. In New York they are known as ‘rats with better publicists.’

Squirrels are the most terrifying land creatures on earth.
