Jackie: What's the matter dicky? Dicky: It's a scary world out there, Jackie. Dicky: Kidnappers, drunk drivers, bullies...The sheer number of the things that could harm the kids on any given days is overwhelming. Jackie: Sure it's scary. But you do what you can to keep them safe and try not to go nuts over what you can't control. Speaking of the which-where are the kids ? Dicky: Goddammit- I left'em in the car. Jackie: It's a scary world in here too I guess !

The primary thing that has become more dangerous for kids since the mid 20th century is the harm parents have done by trying to protect kids from the the things they mistakenly imagine to have become more dangerous.
