I think sunflowers are bisexual (organs from both). It’s polite to ask how your dinner identifies before decapitating and devouring it.

I don’t know botany at all, but in fruits the female produces flowers and fruit. I have no idea if flowers have gender.

When in doubt, use the most reasonably inclusive terminology; “I met this wonderful sunflower, and they have been chosen to be my dinner guest.”
