IFR -Instrument Flight Rules. This is a skill and rating that must be obtained if you want to fly in low visibility conditions or at night. You fly by what your panel instruments tell you and not by looking outside. VFR is Visual Flight Rules and is for day-time flying in clear weather. A VFR license is the easiest to earn but also the most limiting for flying general aviation aircraft.
