You’d better get used to it, young fella—there are numerous “Andy Capp’s” in the world!

So, I was watching the Snuffy Smith, sorry, Barney Google cartoons, and in the episode “The Country Club Smiths”, Snuffy inherits a membership to the “Highbrow Country Club” from his late cousin… Reg Smythe.

Good ol’ Reggie, Snuffy’s 18th cousin, but 17th in his affections.

Hire Andy and kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

That’ll do it.

Andy would be a shoe in for the Rock’s stunt double.

Andy applied for the job as The Rock’s stunt double and did not get it. Why, you ask? Because Andy is not only more talented and far better looking, Andy could kick The Rocks patoot. Thus where we get the phrase “Go Kick Rocks”. Dilly! Dilly! and God Save The King!

Next time take it slow with the new employees.

An opening for Capp. Hire him at once or double his dole, and throw in a few pints. No one has more experience with the non-working than Capp.

BIG mistake!

The reference to the Rock may seem a bit odd. How ever, Reg Smythe drew strips referring to Elizabeth Taylor, Sophia Loren, the Fugitive, etc., so pop cultural references in Andy Capp are nothing new.

Absolutely terrible move there. I’m glad my first days at work have never been like that!
