Why is Merlin NOT wearing a mask? Couldn’t Boody’s fire breath cauterize the wound to stop bleeding?

Well, it’s an episode of the misanthropic doctor, and the patient has to actually, or nearly, die about 15 more times.because his treating physician is that totally bleeep doctor with the inifnitesimal heart you’re supposed to love because his pain made him a drug addict that feels more sorry for himself than anybody else in the history of mankind, including Job and Billy Pilgrim.
