My favorite strip from Pogo was with Churchy turtle standing on a log, a pirate hat on his head, his sword raised high in the air and proclaiming “We have met the enemy and they is us!” How apropos that is even today. [Or perhaps, especially today].
My favorite line was from Owl:
“Dadgummit, every time man gets a great idea, some dang-fool law of nature crumbs it up!”
I don’t remember it exactly, but that is pretty close. As an engineer, I had that cartoon taped to my desk lamp for years until it just dried up and crumbled away.
Breathed has said that he was utterly unfamiliar with the funnies except he does recall liking the hair-do in “Nancy and Sluggo”. Early comparisons of his work were usually to Doonesbury.

This reminds me of Walt Kelly—and Pogo!

Yeah…why aren’t we getting Pogo classics? I miss the Loan Arranger.

There’s nothing “mini” about a 142-part series.

it was Pogo who said many times throughout his brilliant career, “We have met the enemy and he is us.”
imo the best strip of all time.

the mini part comes from 7 mins lead-in w/ commercials, 1 min story, 7 min “and now word from our sponsors”
