ejcapulet, I always knew when my plane was about to land at LAX. the clear blue sky actually sits on top of a layer of brown, and as the plane descends into it, you can see the cutoff point move up outside your window like 2 ribbons.

New York being as dirty as it is, surprisingly does not have the layers of smog when you land there, but you end up covered in bits of soot after a day of walking around there, which you don’t get in smoggy LA.

I’m not a big fan of California, either, but for the same reason I’m not a big fan of Shanghai: air is not supposed to contain fiber.
