Huey: You have to wonder how sincere people are about all this patriotism and American unity. I mean, is it just a short-term reaction of a frightened populace trying to feel empowered and safe? I was personally thinking how six months from now all those mail-order flags that you can attach to your car window will be collecting dust in basements alongside people's rubik's cubes. How "God bless America" and "united we stand" may become post-modern incarnations of "where's the beef"... Caesar: Hmm... "Where's the beef"? Huey: A mid-eighties rallying cry in response to some kind of national fast-food tragedy. Very weird...

They do have a point about that fad patriotism (also fad religiousness, christian rock et al.) Girls of my generation, remember your old N sync and Backstreet Boys posters. Did you ever though back then that theyâd go out of style?
Real patriots and believers donât want the same thing to happen to their nation and/or their god.

Reading this strip from way back then is terribly ironic. Turns out they were right. Huey is very very wise.
