Hello all, I didn’t heed your warnings and am now once again recuperating from a sore hip. My hired crew couldn’t lift the sculpture onto the base so I offered to help and I am now worse than I was originally so I am going to continue to be hit and miss around the Big Top.
I’m sorry to hear that you are worse than before. Take it easy this time. Maybe see a doctor. I hope you enjoy your statue. Oh, and how is your squirrel? Did you name it?
May I have a Pepsi and french fries with green Tobasco sauce? Also 12 eggs scrambled, 4 raw porterhouse steaks, a large bowl of milk and 2 beers? Please?
LuvH8, you would not like to hear my names for the squirrel. Just joking. As much of a pain in the hind end he is, you have to respect his resourcefulness.
Songs should not be allowed to have sirens in them. Neither should anything else broadcast on the radio. It is very unnerving to hear sirens when you are driving. Especially when you are not being a good example.
A few of the songs we listen to in the car on the radio have a subtle siren in the background. It gets me every time. I don’t listen to them enough to be able to ignore it.
LUVH8 Don’t you worry about those sirens. You’re a great driver and already passed all those bad ones.
LADYWOLF Good to hear from you and am as pleased as a pickled possum to see your thoughtful menu. Does LONEWOLF have to cook?
Morning TRIBE! Someone who will not be named spilled grease on the kitchen floor. I look like Lucy O’Ball with a mop in my hand and a polka dotted rag on my head..Oh, the humility. My cats are laughing.
Help! Most of the strips are NOT loading for me. I can read the comments but not see the toon. I’m going to go into withdrawl soon. Not a pretty thought.
Good morning, tribe!
Sorry I couldn’t visit this weekend - it turned out to be a busy one! All good, but a lot of work. And of course with it being Father’s Day, I needed to do more for my hubby than normal.
May I please have steak & corn on the cob? Now that I can’t eat the real corn on the cob without problems, maybe I can at least enjoy the virtual kind! Never had either one for breakfast before, but I won’t let that stop me.
No there is nothing but a blank space. I’ve tried enlarging, opening another tab, even clicking on the profiles of some of the commenters and getting in through their lists, but still nothing.
Agreed, Doc.
I must’ve whistled too loud this weekend.
I’ve got coffee galumphing all over the house. Not that that’s a bad thing, but it’s multiplying faster than I can drink it.
Hope you had a GREAT weekend.
The neighbors may get a tad upset at the noise, Rmom. But if I stand at just the right spot, I could fire down their backyards and only hit the rodent.
rac - Is there a time of day when they’re not home? Until our neighbor next door retired, I was the only one on our street that was usually home during the day. Of course, the sound of gunshots carry fairly far, so I wouldn’t advise firing one inside city limits or where you could get arrested for doing so. I don’t think they’ll buy self-defense unless the woodchuck was rabid.
Yeah - I’m kinda stuck that way. I’m in the county, but it’s a subdivision and there are 7 or 8 houses within 100 yds of us.
It’ll just have to be eighth sticks. Lots of noise but no intentional projectiles and I can cover up for those.
Good morning everyone. My mom has one type of problem squirrel invasion. Neighbor next door told my brother-in-law, which he suspected, how they get in and I find it impossible, through the air-vent of her attic. My brother-in-law put a cage in to trap the squirrel and the squirrel was killed from a broken back trying to escape.
Here is Doc’s coffee though I don’t drink the stuff for ones that does never ends maybe not the type he would fix.
Hi, Kab! I hope both you & your hubby are recovering quickly. At least you have others in the house who should be capable of helping with the heavy work.
I’ve fully recovered from my rt shoulder whereas my hubby has a way to go from the new stint the dr. put in. Since 2 years ago my hubby retired he got meals ready now meals will be later I don’t get in until 5:30pm. Another one gets in closer to 6pm. Made a mistake not insisting kids learn to cook tried to get them interested but would not take off.
rac0308 thanks for sending that I will have my hubby send to my brother-in-law. My brother-in-law saw the damaged done by the squirels. The squirels have built a 3ft nest in the attic. The air vent to the side of the house is where coming from there are no trees near the house. Thought about mess wiring but squirels will get through that to.
Kab - I know what you mean about trying to get kids interested in cooking! My parents insisted all of us take cooking in 4-H, so we all did. My husband said that is one of the reasons my brothers aren’t married - they don’t need wives to cook for them. We have insisted our sons learn a little in the kitchen, so they can at least cook for themselves when hopefully they are out on their own. Neither one is crazy about cooking, but they won’t starve, although Doc’s department will thrive.
@Kab Buch, I got the message–I figured it was the dish that was supposed to go…
LuvH8, and others, speaking of slow internet: my dad lived out in the country for a while in AZ, and he discovered a cable connection, IIRC, that started pretty fast–until more and more people discovered it. Then it got ever slower, until half the time he couldn’t download even a page without being bumped. He contacted the company and asked when they planned to upgrade; they replied that they had no plans for more capacity, so he quit.
Our co-op is quite good: we have (in towns) fiber-optic to the home, so we get reasonably quick internet piggybacked on our phone service. And over the next five years, they plan to get fiber optics to all their customers, including the rural ones. It’s gonna cost them quite a bit–don’t recall exactly, but it’s hundreds of millions of bucks…
Kab
The 1/4” square fencing / mesh should work. Check with your local Ace Hardware if you have one for other suggestions. My dad used it for red squirrels.
Hi, bmonk!
We only have two options for high speed out here in the country where I live. One is via satellite, but as Grog knows all too well, is easily disrupted with storms. The other option we have, isn’t available to everyone in our area. It is from a tower in the itty-bitty town nearby. We’re able to get the signal, because we’re on a hill, and have a high roof to put our antenna on to receive it. Most people in our neighborhood can’t get the signal due to obstructions. No cable out here, if someone wants more than the broadcast channels, they have to have a dish & use satellite. We’re too far from the switching station to have DSL through the phone company.
Rac - There are several Ace Hardware stores in Wichita, so I’m sure Kab can find one. Kab - You can also try the Tractor Supply, Lowe’s or Home Depot. I’m guessing they’ll carry it too.
rac - I didn’t know that. My Dad always bought a roll of fencing, since that was the cheapest way to buy it.
There is a True Value hardware store she could go to that’s further away, that has always had great service. Hupp Hardware at 728 E. Harry. They are the old-fashioned sort of place. I can think of a couple Ace Hardware stores right off the top of my head, so there are probably several in the area.
Ah, that explains a lot, rac! I’m one of those rare females who would prefer to shop at a hardware store (either small or big box) than to go clothes shopping. When I was younger, that was probably the only way I got one-on-one time with my Dad, and he went to them regularly.
3 trips for every project, I always say.
My fefriend and I peruse the power tools.
Her daughter yelled at me when I gave her my extra Ryobi 18v power tool set.
Screwgun, 5” circular saw, Lamp and leaf blower.
Was that wrong?
Rac - I don’t see it was wrong. If I was your offspring, I’d might be upset thinking you could have given it to me. But since it is her daughter, maybe she’s worried her mom will hurt herself. My sister is the worry wart type, so it was good that she wasn’t around Mom a lot until Mom was disabled by her stroke.
rac - 3 trips for every project sounds about right. That was one of the points in favor of us moving here, rather than building on my parents’ farm. Only 3 miles to the nearest lumber & hardware stores vs. 8 miles. Plus the 3 miles are on the way to other towns where we would go, if the closer stores didn’t have what we needed. 4 of the 8 miles would be in the opposite direction.
@♠Lonewolf♠, we have just the opposite: it was hot and muggy before it rained, and now it’s gradually building up again for the evening fireworks show.
Fireworks! sure I just get cloudy, cold and a little rain.
Did you know that in addition to setting the wake up time on an alarm clock, you should also turn it on?
I have an appointment and then I am going to go visit my Gma and tell her that she has to choose her 30 favorite tee shirts. 30 seems like a reasonable number. Maybe 40? I just don’t think she needs to have hmmm……… I haven’t counted them all but at least 75. No wonder she has no room for her stuff.
Well, since I didn’t know I had to turn on my alarm, I am running late. Be back tonight. h
Rmom you mentioned that since your house was on a hill you could get high speed. Could your neighbors sort of piggy back from you? The town I’m living in now only has dialup [BOOOOO] but one person bought a chip that could give high speed. She said we could buy some equipment that would let us get it from her. It was very expensive so we passed since we don’t plan to live in this town any longer than necessary.
LuvH8 Turning your clock on does make it easier for the alarm to work. I found that out by accident when everyone kept yelling at me for being late.
Luv - I had the opposite problem on Sunday. My alarm clock has two alarms. I keep one set for the time I need to wake up on Sundays. The other one is set for an hour earlier, although I will change that as needs be. Since most days I don’t have to use an alarm, and this is fairly new, I have some trouble with it. Somehow on Sunday morning, both alarms were set to go off. Then with snooze, nap & sleep, I couldn’t get the thing to stay quiet very long. I finally unplugged it and took downstairs so my hubby could sleep as late as possible. Urrrgh!
I couldn’t log on this morning, went shopping but still had problems, was going to take Rac’s earlier advice but finally got on after just rebooting ( had just turned the laptop on when first tried ). Will mainly just check comments as I try to get things done.
EMET - Sorry to hear about your problem, I can’t immagine how that feels but hope things will work out for the best somehow.
Things got a little busy at the plant and I forgot all about you. I have a friend who can relate to you. Sorry to hear about it, man. Saying it sucks would be an understatement. But my friend moved on and is now happily remarried. Perhaps you can be as lucky the second time around…if you are so inclined.
Unsolicited Advice Warning
~ The best revenge is a vow to never be like the one who hurt you.
~ Always forgive your enemies, nothing annoys them so much. (Oscar Wilde)
~ Smile, people will wonder what you are thinking. Laugh, they will be paranoid.
Thank you Everyone for the advice on alarm clocks. I also recently found out that you have to turn on the volume. Geesh! These things are so complicated.
Instead of visiting Gma, it seems I am going to have one of the cereal headaches that requires ‘do not drive’ drugs. (Yippy, too bad they aren’t also ‘fun’) But I will probably be sleeping soon.
I sometimes accidentally set my alarm to go off on the radio, where the volume is so low I can’t possibly hear it. Just this week-end I turned up the volume in the event I don’t set it to buzzer.
Grog ~ I find setting the radio to something that really irritates me is usually the most effective. When it plays something I like I just turn down the volume, listen to the music and go back to sleep.
It’s also possible to turn off the anoying buzzer and roll over without hitting the snooze button. There will be days that’ll happen, especially when the only sleep I got was within the last hour.
Grog I have set three separate alarms in three different places and still managed to go back to sleep when I am sleep deprived. Speaking of sleep…………………………..
I am watching a movie called The Egg and I. It is the movie that introduced Ma & Pa Kettle and set of a series of Kettle movies starring Marjorie Main and Percy Kilbride.
A very funny movie, as were most of the follow-up movies.
serenasakitty - Didn’t see your comment before checking out but I was here! ( mostly just checking ) I really do need to go now - hope someone else is here for you.
Hello serena. I am here on a flash visit. I miss it when I see a posting from an early Tribe member and am not around to respond. Nice seeing you about, though I am seldom around when you post.
Good evening or night everyone I will soon be closing and heading for bed though not sure I can sleep. Gonna be one of those nights. I am going to try to send to my brother-in-law the squirrel problem. Family thought about a mess wire net over the air vent side of the house but afraid squirrels will tear into in with sharp teeth. We know those squirrels are serious problem and the attick is very hot now.
By the way for wedding rings. There are times I have to take mine off when my finger swells. But I am very happily faithful to my dear hubby who would never step out on me or I he. We have a saying we joke about with each other on the type of subject that one of the commenter’s talked sadly about on his wife. We don’t want to break someone else in so where stuck with each other.
My husband brother and his wife would have a joke going about divorce but they loved each other up and including his death with lung cancer that spread only lasted for 2 months that was 10 years ago. I will try to catch these comments Tues. Good night all. I do enjoy our visits but getting behind on my reading.
Well the SEC college football schedule is out…sort of. A couple of Florida games are scheduled, but the rest, except for Army/Navy is T.B.D. I hate that.
I think I slept too well last night. I got 7.5 hours straight and woke up at 4:30 feeling very refreshed. I haven’t felt that way in a long time. So I may pay for it the rest of the week.

Plods with ...™ over 14 years ago
Rmom and Kab Ace / True Value will cut a short length. Tractor supply, maybe. Big Box 15’ is the shortest.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
rac - I didn’t know that.

Just going by my local Ace Rmom. BTW - i used to work there part time
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Ah, that explains a lot, rac! I’m one of those rare females who would prefer to shop at a hardware store (either small or big box) than to go clothes shopping. When I was younger, that was probably the only way I got one-on-one time with my Dad, and he went to them regularly.

3 trips for every project, I always say. My fefriend and I peruse the power tools. Her daughter yelled at me when I gave her my extra Ryobi 18v power tool set. Screwgun, 5” circular saw, Lamp and leaf blower. Was that wrong?
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Rac - I don’t see it was wrong. If I was your offspring, I’d might be upset thinking you could have given it to me. But since it is her daughter, maybe she’s worried her mom will hurt herself. My sister is the worry wart type, so it was good that she wasn’t around Mom a lot until Mom was disabled by her stroke.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
rac - 3 trips for every project sounds about right.

Sorry I missed ya Rac!! Dang, it’s hot & sticky now that it rained!
bmonk over 14 years ago
@♠Lonewolf♠, we have just the opposite: it was hot and muggy before it rained, and now it’s gradually building up again for the evening fireworks show.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
Fireworks! sure I just get cloudy, cold and a little rain.
Be back tonight. h
Luv to All, Have a Good Afternoon.
bmonk over 14 years ago
@LuvH8, is that the secret? No wonder my alarm never wakes me up!
BTW: a reply to you on last week’s FHS.
serenasakitty over 14 years ago

Urrrgh!
George Arnold over 14 years ago
I couldn’t log on this morning, went shopping but still had problems, was going to take Rac’s earlier advice but finally got on after just rebooting ( had just turned the laptop on when first tried ). Will mainly just check comments as I try to get things done.
EMET - Sorry to hear about your problem, I can’t immagine how that feels but hope things will work out for the best somehow.
lewisbower over 14 years ago
LUVH8 Haven’t had a single problem with my alarm clock since I retired. I pushed the off button one day and it’s worked great since.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
serena - I suppose it is possible, but we’re not that close - physically or emotionally - to our neighbors.

Hi EMET
Things got a little busy at the plant and I forgot all about you. I have a friend who can relate to you. Sorry to hear about it, man. Saying it sucks would be an understatement. But my friend moved on and is now happily remarried. Perhaps you can be as lucky the second time around…if you are so inclined.

GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Good evening, LuvH8
I sometimes accidentally set my alarm to go off on the radio, where the volume is so low I can’t possibly hear it. Just this week-end I turned up the volume in the event I don’t set it to buzzer.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
Grog ~ I find setting the radio to something that really irritates me is usually the most effective. When it plays something I like I just turn down the volume, listen to the music and go back to sleep.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
It’s also possible to turn off the anoying buzzer and roll over without hitting the snooze button. There will be days that’ll happen, especially when the only sleep I got was within the last hour.
Ooops! Premium Member over 14 years ago
Grog I have set three separate alarms in three different places and still managed to go back to sleep when I am sleep deprived. Speaking of sleep…………………………..
Good Night Everyone
