I have heard that some school districts are changing their schedules to save money. Some are going to longer days, 4 days a week. Others are going to longer days, but start weeks later than previously. We’re supposed to be up above 100F for the next several days. Even though I like warm, I don’t like HOT!

Grog says it’s only due to get up to 98 here. “ONLY”? At the Houston Museum of Natural Science it’s already 92 with a heat index of 99. The forecast is for 95 and a 20% chance of showers. (Both these indicies about present and future conditions are from WeatherBug.) And if it’s 92 at almost noon here then that sounds about right.

Undoubtedly it will be hotter and more miserable elsewhere in the area.

I had a long night and only just got up about an hour ago, if that. I don’t believe in taking only a few hours’ sleep and then going through the day like a zombie if I can help it. Because I can set my own schedule most of the time, I can sleep in if I get over-involved the night before. But between the heat, the money-making projects I must do and some other things, it looks like my venture to replace my glasses must wait for one more day. And I’ll have to get to bed on time and if necessary take the Ambien I have in reserve for resetting my sleep cycle, if I want to fetch those glasses tomorrow. Perhaps I’ll be able to drop by The Men’s Warehouse too…

Sometimes I have to do pure “clerical work” to give my mind relief. So much of yesterday I was “feeding” my iTunes (and then my iPod Touch) with CDs I own, and then altering the graphics to the special button format you see on the left (putting the covers into it, that is). All that took a surprising amount of time, and it ended up keeping me awake (after several hours’ nap in the early evening) until 4 AM. So here I am, the normal eight hours later plus one or one and a half.

Johanan, the station I was watching this morning did say 98, though the temperatures will drop to about 95 (probably as the rain chances will increase) by mid-week.

@Grog: Meanwhile, back in the peanut gallery, WeatherBug is predicting exactly the opposite: 95 today but 98 on Tuesday and Wednesday even as the chance of rain increases.

There’s no sense in my quibbling over such predictions, since the sources typically differ and WB’s predictions get revised as conditions change.

Oh great, more chance of rain plus more heat? I hope not. Just what I need seeing that I have to go everywhere by bus or on foot. Well, there’s nothing for it if I don’t want to simply procrastinate forever on necessary errands. But the raincoat I have turns me into a walking sauna around here.

LuvH8 - You don’t need to use all of it! The help on-line can teach you a lot. Just try to do what you want to with it. Maybe start with making a picture smaller etc. You probably won’t need to do anything with making channels or layers, at least not yet and then only if you want to do something that needs them. Using it to do small things it would be like a simple program but would allow you to do a lot more if you want to. I might be able to answer any questions you have.

It’s supposed to start getting cooler at nights tonight, but the days will still be hot until nearly next weekend. Still, if we can cool off the buildings at night, that helps a lot the next day, not to mention being much more pleasant to sleep. (Next 24 hours: a good chance of a severe thunderboomer at any time of day or night, followed by several more days of a lesser chance. So I may have to leave with little or no notice…)

Hi esp to: ♠Lonewolf♠, Sojo, EMET, & Grog!

About Farve’s upcoming year, he’s already missed the chance to better his record of last year: retired three times, and still never missed a game! So maybe he really is getting ready to quit–but not just yet. (Like St. Augustine: “Give me chastity…but not just yet.”)

Whats the least used sentence in the English language?

Does that Mercedes belong to the banjo player?

I don’t know–there are plenty of other sentences in English I never expect to hear:

    Please hand me that anvil.

Do I look like a defibrillator?

That stringy fish is supposed to go over there.

My hovercraft is full of eels.

Grog said, 1 cartoon per page ago

Does the page # automatically change in increments of 50? Regardless of length of comment?

Yes. Some years back, when the Pibgorn comments began to take off, gocomics decided to limit the number of comments per page. At first it was 20, and then a couple of days later they went to 50. Since then, that has been the standard.

bmonk - Thanks for other sentences. Roy Clark is an example to show that it is possible for a banjo player to own a nice car. That joke seemed fitting as bluegrass music had come up. That joke was common when I saw a banjo festival in Oklahoma and remembering it brought back a lot of memories. That reminds me of another common joke: what’s a redneck’s last words?

LuvH8 - LOL!, I know the feeling! It can be fun to play with it (a copy of your photo). Doing simple things should be easy (then again my perspective is off), just don’t be intemidated by all that’s there. I realize though that to me the entire program is easy to learn as I have used similar and harder programs like that for about three decades. I have become sick of having to keep up with a lot of software and am trying to simpliifly things. Not wanting to learn new software is something I can really relate to! (I doubt that being blond and working with it is a bad thing - although I do like dumb blond jokes! :-) )

I got (what’s called) new eye pads at Wal-Mart. There like the Lone Rangers mask without eye holes. They were in the pharmacy area with eye care. Came in a box about 4”x4”x3/4”and were $3 or $4. I am sleeping better now with it completly dark even with the TV on and they can be removed in less than a second to see something.

Good evening everyone for me bad evening. Got an email from fasta for Federal Aid. I got kicked in the wallet. *NO* so I will have to take courses slower and age faster, I have a feeling I will only gain knowledge and be left out again for full time Medical. :(. I can’t afford $1200 every time I take two classes so down to one. And with Age discriminiation so rampant I will be kicked down again.

I know this is late. Where I work at the dept thinks favorably for full time continuing education. Where as pt could care less. Full time get recognized for perfect attendance pt no way. Employer’s like 20 to 30 something someone 54 check with senior services. So my pt with a little help from hubby will have to help and yes, wow it will take too long for classes what can one do. Owing for 30 years doesn’t sound appealing. I will have to talk to an advisor to let know of problem. Worst part is there are millions of people in same situation only worse unemployment is running out and no job prospect for them. I checked the medical sections of different areas and I can compete with 3 years of experience in this field.

Hi, Kab! - I agree that owing for 30 years isn’t the way to go. I’ve noticed that schools really push people to borrow, but I rarely think that is a good idea. Unless the person is going to be earning substantially more with that education than they would without it, it isn’t a wise investment. I got offered a part-time teaching job tonight, but turned it down. It would be 5 afternoons a week, in the town my hubby works. I applied there for substitute jobs, as there aren’t any private schools close to our house here. At least I got put on their list for substitute teachers. Hurray!

I just read the news that the primary race for my county commissioner was decided by a coin toss. No opponent in the general election, so unless there’s a strong write-in campaign, the coin toss winner gets the job.

Rmom I know that is your choice. My reason for pt is not by choice it’s all I could get 10 years ago. Believe it or not 10 years ago that is all that was offered, now if there is any job it’s full time. I’m in a rut, found mistakes files undone the way there suppose to be, and one who wanted me not working or filing certain documents who assigned this to someone else also includes e-scanning where by pass interoffice mail, I’m see she is messing up with what I do. This is one reason I can’t leave the education. I’ve talked to universities like Phoenix talk about a good game they’re worse. 30 thous to 60 thous for 15 months.

Two we left two years ago. A guy ran for mayor with no opposition. Years before that there an older man who always ran for mayor also delivered paper”s for Eagle. Last time he ran against someone else only 89 voted for him while his opponent votes overwhelmed. Bless his heart he was a very good man use to be teacher or principle with the local school.
