Hello not for long though gotta get around. For chocolate I heard about this months ago. Seems who is seller of chocolate is not making enough money over the ones who slave and pick the chocolate beans. Me I canāt have to much Iām allergic to it.
hopeandjoy2 - I remembet the differences between my grandmothers. One was negative about everything and had a bad attitude about life. The other felt she had a fullfiling life and that every day she woke up was another day that God had given her, she lived to 93!
Rmom - Downloading free programs for my computer. A lot of utillites, some astonomy programs and now a flight simulator. Yesterday got a printer, scanner and external hard drive hooked up wirelessly. Getting close to getting it all fixed up.
Sojo - Sounds like youāre getting your new computer set up well. My son installed a graphing calculator on my laptop and his brotherās tablet. The youngest needs one for his Algebra class, hopefully the one we ordered for him is in todayās mail. They just left for school less than 30 minutes ago, and was to pick up the mail on the way out. (It is probably at least 1/2 of a city block walk to our mailbox.)
Sorry you are sore and bruised **Lonewolf but as you say, ānothing seems brokenā Take care.
Johanan I remember eating Weetabix when we were living in London for a semester in 1989. Hovis bread was a favorite and of course Digestives and Hobnobsā¦especially with chocolate creamed over one side of the Digestives.
SojoA good testimonial from your 93-year-old-grandmother.
Hi, H&J2!
Not that I care to live to be 93, but life is a lot more enjoyable for you & those around you if you can look on the bright side. My mom was really great about not complaining when it wouldnāt do any good. (She had a series of strokes that continued over 2 1/2 years before she died. Going from driving herself the day before, to being completely bedridden & dependent, she managed to keep a good attitude through it all.)
As she got older her kids had her slow down and quit giving piano lessons. After a short time she resumed giving lessons saying it was important for her to do what she enjoyed and helping others. She couldnāt say no and turn a church down that wanted her to play the organ for them so she alternated weeks playing for two churches until she died.
Sojo - I was thankful that my mom would limit her activities herself, so I didnāt have to insist. After Dad died, she quit driving after dark, or on Kellogg & the other highways. She went to Africa for a Work & Witness trip when she was 79. I was supportive, but I donāt think all of my siblings were. That trip made her realize that she wasnāt up to doing what she used to do, so started helping others to go instead. It was only after her stroke that I had to tell her she couldnāt drive. She couldnāt even drive her walker straight, there was no way she was getting behind the wheel! But as she told my sister, she could drive better than (a certain brother of ours with a really bad driving record). Cracked us up, and we couldnāt argue with that!
My attitude was as long as she wasnāt putting others in danger, Iād let her do what she wanted. (After Dad died, I had power-of-attorney.)
Iām currently editing her journal from a mission trip to a Guatemalan orphanage in 1986. She typed it on a typewriter, so I was able to scan it, but there are a lot of typos and copying mistakes to correct.
Rmom - You seem to of had a good perspective about her and her situation, Nowdays when you have a stroke that affecis you at all your driving license is automaticlly suspended until a doctor releases you to take a test and prove you can drive.
Sojo - She had her stroke in March 2007. As far as I know, she was never notified her KS DL was suspended. In fact, they mailed the renewal paperwork to her before the expiration date on it. Maybe the doctor didnāt notify the DMV, since he knew that my sister was living with Mom, and so she was under constant supervision.
Sojo - It probably depends on the situation. Since Mom was bad enough that she needed a helper in addition to the walker to get anywhere in the house, no one was too worried about her being able to get the car out of the garage and on the street.
Since she was having trouble reading, we took her to her optometrist for new glasses. He confirmed (in her presence) that she shouldnāt be driving, so she didnāt keep pressing the issue.
Rmom Your mom was wise and evidently lived a full life as did your mother, Sojo I have a 94 year-old school teacher friend who taught me one year when I was a child who is still tutoring but has given up on doing programs on the Orphan Trains for groups as she said āit started to make her nervousā She is fun to visit with, too and helps out the historical society one morning a week.
My Mom died of breast cancer when she was 60 but contributed a lot to church and community when she had the chanceā¦.I repeatā¦.Life is good for the most part!!
I left 10 hours ago and there is still not a cup of NUC COFFEE on my Red Sox coaster next to my keyboard. I know I may have annoyed a FEW people with my unsuccessful attempt to quit last week, but come on folk. I promise never to go more than 15 minutes without it. Wonder what SHE WHO MUST BE OBEYED is going to think about thecoffee break during our bi-annual love making.?
Yes, hope&joy2, Mom lived a full life. I was blessed to have her mentoring during most of my life. I feel sorry for my siblings who took her for granted, and didnāt spend much time with her until after her strokes.
Rmom, a lot of travellers go to Galveston. I got to think that weather in Galveston would be a lot better than Kansas or Chicago in the winter monthsā¦.unless, of course, you like winter.
As for where the traffic went, who knows, but I will take it and the M.P.G. that goes with it
I know there are KS snowbirds who go to Texas for the winter. But youāre right - there are a lot of people who want to go to the beach in the summer.
Rmom, traffic can at times be bumper to bumper heading to Galveston. I went there once mid-day on a Saturday and it was bumper to bumper to the island from the moment I got on the highway. Itās about 35 miles away from where I live and normally takes about 25 minutes to get there. It took me about an hour and half.
Good everyone. My count time is going. Where Iām at rained missed us big time went further north.
When my dad passed I called DMV let them know he wouldnāt be renewing they thought I was Lonee or something or making it up. I told him he just spent two months in hospital and passed on at 2am. No he will not renew licenceās.
@Grog: Not only the Atlanta Thrashers, but the Braves, the Falcons, the Hawks and the Dream of the WNBA! Iām glad I moved here to Atlanta from Savannah!
If anyone seeās this. My dad passed away May of 1999. So only oneās wanted death certificate was banking and Register of Deeds for property as my sister and my mom is very much alive and made her sole owner of homestead where she resides. Her banking with dadās certificate present we made much needed changes there. My dad never went for direct deposit that got change plus sister and I are on momās bank account. Dr.ās office I have us listed there with her full knowledge and signature. B.I.L. called SS former employer to let them know so mom will keep getting her benifits.
I too will not be on long always miss out on fun.:(

Lewreader, I had that cup sitting there, but if you leave it too long, it runs off on itās own! Must be what happened there!

Yes, hope&joy2, Mom lived a full life. I was blessed to have her mentoring during most of my life. I feel sorry for my siblings who took her for granted, and didnāt spend much time with her until after her strokes.

I have heard Doc Toon has the cups with his coffee in them trained to return home if not being used within the prescribed period of time!!

I be back.
Trafficās been exceptionally good this week so far. Itās like driving home on a Sunday.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Where did all the traffic go, Grog? I didnāt think Houston was a big summer vacation destination.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Rmom, a lot of travellers go to Galveston. I got to think that weather in Galveston would be a lot better than Kansas or Chicago in the winter monthsā¦.unless, of course, you like winter.
As for where the traffic went, who knows, but I will take it and the M.P.G. that goes with it
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
I know there are KS snowbirds who go to Texas for the winter. But youāre right - there are a lot of people who want to go to the beach in the summer.

Rmom, traffic can at times be bumper to bumper heading to Galveston. I went there once mid-day on a Saturday and it was bumper to bumper to the island from the moment I got on the highway. Itās about 35 miles away from where I live and normally takes about 25 minutes to get there. It took me about an hour and half.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Grog, Iām guessing since school has started in a lot of places, the beach-going crowd is much smaller now.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Well Iām sure thatās part of it, but I donāt remember it being that good during rush hour at any time of the year.
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Oh, well. Enjoy it when it happens!

Hi Kab
Smiley Rmom over 14 years ago
Hi, Kab! I found that I usually had to present a death certificate to get things changed.
GROG Premium Member over 14 years ago
Same here, Kab. DMV, banks credit card companies, the phone company right on down the line will want to see a copy of the death certificate.

@Grog: Not only the Atlanta Thrashers, but the Braves, the Falcons, the Hawks and the Dream of the WNBA! Iām glad I moved here to Atlanta from Savannah!

Josh, I believe your response is for DDFenceEMET. He is the one who asked about the Thrashers. Heās a hockey enthusiast.
