Morning All!

Little Sister I don’t envy you on 4 classes that’s a lot of reading and memory work. At least your young and I hope fast reader. Where my dad was concerned he knew his life was coming to an end long before us. Last Thanksgiving we had with family for prayer time he blest the day’s he had with family knowing there would be no more Thanksgiving’s or holiday’s left. They made it following year 45 years celebrated in Medical ICU. They married late in life. One part my dad done retired at 62 wanted to enjoy life he and my mom did. Mom is very much alive at 85 and in a couple weeks three of us will be busy on a Sat at state fair.

He never made it ot Mother’s Day. When he was in hospital he wanted us to leave.

When you see this DDFenceEMET for me at 3rd place is that good or bad?

Little smat Sister I mean that in a very good way. I only have two subjects and later one used books already writting in. Is all I can handle. Friday am first time for me I have a phone interview if I pass I get to go up otherwise still have studies.

@Grog, I just saw your description of getting to Galveston in bumper-to-bumper traffic–reminded me of driving I-270 around Chicago in rush hour, which was two lanes of bumper-to-bumper–or at the most one car-length room before someone else squeezed in–at 55 mph. Not a lot of fun, but at least it was moving!

bmonk, the road to Galveston is 3 lanes and at times was stop & go on that day. I’m sure there are many others like it.

What’s been great about the past few days is that the lowest speed on the drive home in that one particular bottle-kneck area has been at 65 mph. I’m sure that won’t last though.

EMET & Kab, when there is time I take the time to greet everyone who has posted before me and after. If I have found that nothing has changed since my last post, however long ago that may have been, I will not go through the whole greeting again, but only greet the newcomers.

Unlike my breakfast menu (which I do occasionally tweek), I do not have a standard list for greetings. I find it preferable to greet only the people who are here….and not the ones who may not show.

Not too bad. I’ve been spending most of the day scanning pictures and transcribing Mom’s trip journals, plus memories of her that people wrote for her 30th birthday. (Her mom had died and she had a stillborn daughter in the previous year, so her sister made a scrapbook with what she was able to collect as a special gift.) I go back to my doctor tomorrow afternoon. Had a nagging headache all yesterday, and a week or so before that, had one that lasted for several days. Either he’ll take me off the new med or increase the dosage, I’m guessing.

Not for me, Grog! Even during my drinking days, beer was blechy!

Sorry all I can’t have KFC don’t care if they claim lower in fats, there still fats. For all you slim guys out there enjoy. Looking at soon before class starts Language of Medicine. Almost finished with chapter 1 of Psychology wow a lot of reading. Anyone taking Friday off, I know Doc Toon is working up until Sunday or Monday. Me I’m not off though off Monday no pay.

Kab - I like fried chicken with breading, but too much grease will upset my system. I’ve found if I order the chicken fingers instead, they don’t have the fatty skin, so they don’t taste as greasy. I haven’t compared the stats, but am guessing they’re lower in fat than the regular KFC.

Kab - My hubby not only isn’t taking off Friday, he’s working 6 hours on Saturday and 10 hours on Monday - for no extra pay. He will be given comp time for Labor Day, so it isn’t that big of a deal, since we don’t have plans for that day.

Rmom sorry for that mine has to either be not fried, barbaque, boiled, baked, or broiled. Are you enjoying cool weather since front went through? We opened our windows though not in main BD to much traffic noise. I know you don’t get traffic noise but insect to animal noise. Saw your ariel photo earlier nice location lots of trees I imagine that helps keep heat down.

Kab, I get all three days. Your story makes me think back to my earliest days with the company I spent over 31 years with. A couple of those years were as a temp until I was finally made a permanent employee. It got to the point that I was a full time temp. The HR person liked me and she arranged with my boss at the time to ensure that I get all holidays paid. Any vacation time taken was still out of pocket though.

Oh and I can’t take tomorrow off. I have to still work on reporting and have a cost review in the morning and a budget meeting in the afternoon. So no extra-long week-end for me, but I still have plenty of days left to take before the end of the year. Best to take them when no one else is.

Close but not quite. With this dept. I was told by the boss and Admin Assist they tried to get position full time and their boss as well went to hirer up that boss said not cheaper for two pt then full time. I’ve been there over 8 years can’t lateral transfer and I hear the door closing all the time for interviews. My type of position is classified as temporary which means only 1,000 hours per year which means I have to miss 4 hours to not go over the time frame, where as perminent means 1500 hours per year someone that can have pay taken out for medical insurance not sure if get paid for holiday’s.

Oh I need to mention for the dept is not through a temp agency. I don’t think tempary agency’s are doing much either. Wichita and outside went through major layoff’s and aircraft workers are fighting a loosing battle trying to tell company’s don’t outsourse or not jobs.

Back in those days, Kab, I was not crazy about my temp days. I felt so expendible back then. But the fact of the matter is, no one is safe these days.

Kab - With our geo-thermal system, and extra thick insulated walls (2x6’s), we never open our windows and turn off the system. The only time we do that is during a power failure. I did design the house to have several windows on the north & south sides, and we bought screens for all of them, so we can catch breezes easier. But with a heat pump, it has to work so hard to get “caught back up” after it has been off for a while, that we don’t save any energy to turn it off. Dust can be a problem here, too. Plus, I’m allergic to ragweed, so the less of that I get inside, the better.

Whoa!! Nasty thunderstorms with a lot of lightening!

Well, Like it or not, LuvH8, I’m on my second….and I may have a third before I turn in.

Grog you’ve got that right. A year ago before my neck surgery the dept decided they couldn’t keep me that 6-8 weeks was to long to hold pt position, and the Admin Assist at that time was already gone for 4 months was expected back for another 2 months. Terminiated, was told I could go to HR, I did, told I need to write a grievance out and what dept didn’t know they had impliminted a policy for ADA Disability Act which I took. So went home wrote up grievance same thing I told HR about also asked boss for letter of recomindation he did everything true including perfect attandence and not being late. Dept was forced to give job back to me. When I did go back took a little while but straighten up mess that was left. I never forgave them for what they did. Another reason I’m seeking a full time job. As a full time worker they wouldn’t do that may have to get it approved but would not fire. As right not a coworker is off due to vertibra problems and having surgery 13 of this month and that worker will have a job to go back to maybe lighter load.

I drove right in the small cluster of rain drops on way to work. Sure cooled down nice. Can’t have BD window open too much noise.

Kab - I agree it is noisy in the city. My mom lived close to a police substation, and we heard a lot of sirens. It is quieter out here, but the insects & birds make a lot of noise. (Owls hooting, roosters crowing, birds flying into our windows…)

I’m hoping the beer will help me sleep better than I did last night. Another hectic one tomorrow and I need at least 6 hours.

I probably need to head to bed. I’ve got a lot of shopping to do while I’m in town, so I hope I sleep well and get rested tonight.

The storm is really hjitting us now. Wolfangil isn’t home with James and I am beginning to feel uneasy.

There’s a firestation not to far from us and they use HWY to one main street going. Where my mom lives a block away there is a police and fire station both. Fire station there before police station. When ice hit’s this winter they are rolling fast for bridges on HWY gets dicy.

I’m saying good night to been reading medical language and thinking what am I doing?
