At least you can say you’ve always had a balanced diet!
Grog - No problem. You need to earn a paycheck.
I prefer Raiders as well, although the melting faces gross me out. I hardly remember Temple - it was years ago.
I think my sons really enjoyed Raiders - except they fast forward through anything that looks romantic.
Ooops! & bmonk - That bright thing must have moved from here. All I can see is white - white ground, white sky.
Ooops! - It is too cold here for anything except pictures of snakes.
It is snowing and windy but the visibility isn’t too bad so were not in the worst of the storm here now and probably won’t be. We’ll have some accumulation though with drifting and will be cold.
Hello Montana Lady, bmonk and Rmom Good to see you since the last go-around.
Rmom You are much colder than we are…18° here. I went to the mailbox shortly after 10 and at 10:45 can’t see where I walked. Wind had been blowing briskly but not so much now…just lots of white stuff falling from the sky.
Hi, Hope&Joy! - The snow at my place is coming down sideways. The visibility isn’t great, but it is better than I’ve seen with fog - I can still see my next door neighbors’ roofs. It should be interesting to see how much snow lands where my hubby is at - he never believes the weathermen, so he was surprised it actually snowed, even though I’d been telling him what was forecasted.
I’m at work. Have got several cars done already and the time is flying by. WooHoo. This is a tough time of the year for mechanics with people paying off their credit cards from the holidays and others waiting on their income tax returns. So I’m happy that’s it’s busy today.
Hello Montana Lady! - Will be interesting to see the amount of snow they say we have when it stops. Due to the wind it’s almost bare in larger flat ares but drifts are over 2 feet around some areas now. They usually measure the amount in flat areas which I think under-reports total snowfall.
Sojo - When I walk out to the mailbox, I’ll take a ruler and measure our snow. I measure in several different spots, so the readings aren’t thrown off much by the blowing.
From what I hear on the radio, sounds like there are numerous cars stuck on major roads of Wichita. I’m sure glad we didn’t need to get out today!
Rmom - I think you’ll get more snow than we will. Drifting is the main problem I think (and cold temperatures). According to the radar I’m watching west Wichita is almost out of the snowing area. It’s moving very slow though so it will still be awhile and I don’t know if more will develope. Ths snow is very fine and dry so with the wind it will be hard at ground level to tell when the snowfall stops and what is just being blowng around.
Sojo - I’m pretty sure I’ll have more snow than you, from the forecast & radar.
My hubby left work around 2, and got stuck getting home. Thankfully, some sheriff’s officer using his private 4-wheel drive truck gave him a ride home, after they couldn’t get his car out of the yard it slid into. I told him yesterday, he ought to get a shovel just in case, but he didn’t think he’d need it.
Sojo - Days like today is why when he first took the job, we bought a sleeper sofa for his office. That was when he was still commuting from our house everyday. I’m glad that he is staying in the same town now, because knowing him, he would have attempted to drive home anyway.
*Hey, Out there This is ceasing to be “fun” * It is still coming down and over my knees on what appears to be flat ground…(I had to wade out for a moment) I am 5’5”.
The official report was 5 inches at 11 o’clock here but I don’t know how they can get an accurate report. I know all you Snow bunnies and polar bears in Canada New England and Chicago get more snow than this all the time. I have great respect for you!
Hope&Joy - I reconsidered going out for the mail. It just doesn’t seem worth the effort. I haven’t heard what the official report is for my area, but 6-8 inches is my guess based on what I can see from my windows (and previous snowfalls.)
There’s a reason I don’t want to live somewhere that gets snow like this often!
Me too! They say we now have 12-13 which seems close at 5 p.m. I have a picture from this morning but I am afraid it is too big. Will give it a try but may erase it.
Good job, Hope&Joy!
I looked out the windows to see if there was anything worth taking a picture of, but it is too windy for the snow to stay on the branches.
Well according to the lateset update our best chances for snow will occur Thursday on in to Friday as moisture moves in from the Gulf. Exact timing and accumulation are still unknown, but they think the worst of the accumulation will occur south of I10 which includes Pasadena and League City. So I guess I will be worrying about my commute then.
When I left I wasn’t sure I let alone had trouble getting out of the drive like so many others, but drive residential street.
This one road getting on a different street from main road was worse. Getting to work I used headlights but looked for tire tracks.
Now for relaxing. I was not to calm going in. Wednesday is another day.
This one road I take was in better shape then I thought. Mainteance has been working on parking lot at that dept I work at.
School is closed for Wed. Everyone did get big thanks, the other facility manager didn’t do that, the new one did and we can wear blue jeans at no fee.
The power went out as I walked in the door. I am posting with my phone. It is nasty out there. Snow is all over the place. Winds are blowing and gusting.
Kab - Glad you made it home! The college my sons & I go to canceled classes for both today & tomorrow. I think they are more worried about wind chill than road conditions, from what their statement said.
Grog - All I can figure is that they are worried about the students going to/from their dorms on the main campus. That, and administration probably wanted to stay in their warm homes.
Well, working in Edmonton we had days where the high could have been -40 not factoring in wind chill. In Montreal, I walked to school in not much better. A very big dump of snow was the only thing that kept me out of school. It didn’t happen as often as we would have liked.
Wolfie - Wow! Without an alternate heat source, that would be miserable if the power hadn’t come back on quickly.
Even in Wichita, some people went without power for a week or longer during an ice storm about 5 years ago. At least my mom insisted on getting a wood stove for just such cases before the new addition was completed. It was a bear to keep it fed with firewood, but at least we could do that until it was safe to take her to our house.
Rmom, not to fear. I have access to more than one generator if needed and hooking one up is like playing checkers for me. We have never been with out power for more than 6 hours in the 9 years I have lived here. I have insulated this house myself and it will stay bearable for quite a while.
Wolfie - Just be careful with hooking up a generator, but I believe you probably do know how to do that safely. We did extra insulation on this house too - 2x6 walls so we could have more insulation, best windows we could buy, but it still gets uncomfortable fairly fast. I’m glad your power hasn’t stayed off long, it is bad enough in the summer, but it is worse in the winter. Of course, when I’m cold, I’m really miserable.
Don’t worry Rmom. I’ve been zapped by electricity many times in the past. I used to install attic fans and I very seldom turned off the power. Same when I do minor electrical repairs here at the house. Nothing like a refreshing zap every now and then! LOL
Wolfie - My hubby doesn’t like getting zapped, even with static electricity. But he wired our whole house, so I’m pretty familar with the basics of electricity. I wanted him to wire a separate circuit for the generator, but I don’t think he ever completed that project. The last couple of times he tried to start the generator, it wouldn’t work.
I’m glad we’ve got the wood stove - I figure that will keep us warm enough to wait until it is safe enough to travel to family, friends or a hotel with power.
Wolfie - That’s good to know. Even if you have to sleep all in one room to stay warm, at least you’ve got a way to do that, plus you can roast weiners and marshmallows.
Power has gone off and on three more times now but only for 5 minutes at a time or so. I honestly do feel sorry for those repair people that have to be out in the cold.
All you young whipper-snappers better be careful with all this icky weather! And don’t be forgetting proper ventilation with alternative heat and electricity sources! And if you are warm when it is under 20° call emergency services. And BE SAFE!
Hey! You are not last anymore! Hobbes was last but he said my name (spelled wrong), so I couldn’t resist. When I was setting up my favorites I accidently set them to go to Jan. 26, so anyway the Calvin & Hobbes contest is still going on.

George Arnold about 14 years ago
Rmom - I think you’ll get more snow than we will. Drifting is the main problem I think (and cold temperatures). According to the radar I’m watching west Wichita is almost out of the snowing area. It’s moving very slow though so it will still be awhile and I don’t know if more will develope. Ths snow is very fine and dry so with the wind it will be hard at ground level to tell when the snowfall stops and what is just being blowng around.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Sojo - I’m pretty sure I’ll have more snow than you, from the forecast & radar. My hubby left work around 2, and got stuck getting home. Thankfully, some sheriff’s officer using his private 4-wheel drive truck gave him a ride home, after they couldn’t get his car out of the yard it slid into. I told him yesterday, he ought to get a shovel just in case, but he didn’t think he’d need it.
George Arnold about 14 years ago
Rmom - I’m glad to hear he made it home okay. As cold as it is, being stuck can become a big problem if your stranded for a long time.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago

Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Hope&Joy - I reconsidered going out for the mail. It just doesn’t seem worth the effort. I haven’t heard what the official report is for my area, but 6-8 inches is my guess based on what I can see from my windows (and previous snowfalls.) There’s a reason I don’t want to live somewhere that gets snow like this often!
hopeandjoy2 about 14 years ago
Me too! They say we now have 12-13 which seems close at 5 p.m. I have a picture from this morning but I am afraid it is too big. Will give it a try but may erase it.

snowy Burg
hopeandjoy2 about 14 years ago
Guess this works The bushes around the door are covere now after 6 more hours of snow.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Good job, Hope&Joy! I looked out the windows to see if there was anything worth taking a picture of, but it is too windy for the snow to stay on the branches.

Well according to the lateset update our best chances for snow will occur Thursday on in to Friday as moisture moves in from the Gulf. Exact timing and accumulation are still unknown, but they think the worst of the accumulation will occur south of I10 which includes Pasadena and League City. So I guess I will be worrying about my commute then.
George Arnold about 14 years ago
Good luck Grog, It’s about to stop snowing here. Only got 4” but it’s cold and windy.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
Helllo everyone. I’m got home close to 5:30pm.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Hi, ♥Kab♥. It’s always good to get home in one piece, no matter how long it takes.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
When I left I wasn’t sure I let alone had trouble getting out of the drive like so many others, but drive residential street. This one road getting on a different street from main road was worse. Getting to work I used headlights but looked for tire tracks. Now for relaxing. I was not to calm going in. Wednesday is another day.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
This one road I take was in better shape then I thought. Mainteance has been working on parking lot at that dept I work at. School is closed for Wed. Everyone did get big thanks, the other facility manager didn’t do that, the new one did and we can wear blue jeans at no fee.

Hello ♥Kab♥!

Good afternoon/evening, Tribe.
The power went out as I walked in the door. I am posting with my phone. It is nasty out there. Snow is all over the place. Winds are blowing and gusting.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
I hope you’re not without power for too long, ♠Lonewolf♠. You got strong winds or ice on the lines?
George Arnold about 14 years ago
♠Lonewolf♠ - Hope your power is back on soon! STAY WARM!
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Kab - Glad you made it home! The college my sons & I go to canceled classes for both today & tomorrow. I think they are more worried about wind chill than road conditions, from what their statement said.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
Rmom your correct about the wind chill factor. I wasn’t sure how much snow we had weather reports 5”. My car had to trudge through it.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Wolfie - I hope your power doesn’t stay off for long. Do you have a way to heat your house without power?
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
I’d be more concerned with the road conditions. Windchill won’t keep me from going anywhere.
kab2rb about 14 years ago
Lonewolf how is Chicago. Heard your area suppose to get dumped on by snow?
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Grog - All I can figure is that they are worried about the students going to/from their dorms on the main campus. That, and administration probably wanted to stay in their warm homes.
hopeandjoy2 about 14 years ago
Sounds scarey, Lonewolf Hope you have an alternate source of heat.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
It didn’t keep me from going to Superbowl parties either. :-)
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Well, working in Edmonton we had days where the high could have been -40 not factoring in wind chill. In Montreal, I walked to school in not much better. A very big dump of snow was the only thing that kept me out of school. It didn’t happen as often as we would have liked.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Power just came back on.
Hi Grog, ice on the lines, high winds and blowing snow.
HI Kab, The Chicago area is getting hit hard right now. Many areas getting 2-3 inches per hour with 40-50 mph winds.
Hi Rmom & HopeandJoy♫, no alternate source of heat setup here.
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Well my second comment slipped ahead of my first, but I’m not fixing it.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Hi, Sojo. We conserve pretty well without the heat on! :^)
GROG Premium Member about 14 years ago
Well I’ve got a VHS movie tonight: Rio Bravo, so may as well call it a night now.
Gunite, Tribeandall
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Good night, Grog!
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Wolfie - Wow! Without an alternate heat source, that would be miserable if the power hadn’t come back on quickly. Even in Wichita, some people went without power for a week or longer during an ice storm about 5 years ago. At least my mom insisted on getting a wood stove for just such cases before the new addition was completed. It was a bear to keep it fed with firewood, but at least we could do that until it was safe to take her to our house.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Good night, Grog.
George Arnold about 14 years ago
Good Night Grog.
♠Lonewolf♠ - Glad your power is back on.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Rmom, not to fear. I have access to more than one generator if needed and hooking one up is like playing checkers for me. We have never been with out power for more than 6 hours in the 9 years I have lived here. I have insulated this house myself and it will stay bearable for quite a while.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Thanks, Sojo.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Wolfie - Just be careful with hooking up a generator, but I believe you probably do know how to do that safely. We did extra insulation on this house too - 2x6 walls so we could have more insulation, best windows we could buy, but it still gets uncomfortable fairly fast. I’m glad your power hasn’t stayed off long, it is bad enough in the summer, but it is worse in the winter. Of course, when I’m cold, I’m really miserable.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Don’t worry Rmom. I’ve been zapped by electricity many times in the past. I used to install attic fans and I very seldom turned off the power. Same when I do minor electrical repairs here at the house. Nothing like a refreshing zap every now and then! LOL
hopeandjoy2 about 14 years ago
Lonewolf I bet you have curley locks or else your hair stands on end from all the zapping! You are scaring me again. *: )
I am glad our house is cozy tonight. We have gas burning logs in case of an emergency but haven’t switched to a gas stove.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Wolfie - My hubby doesn’t like getting zapped, even with static electricity. But he wired our whole house, so I’m pretty familar with the basics of electricity. I wanted him to wire a separate circuit for the generator, but I don’t think he ever completed that project. The last couple of times he tried to start the generator, it wouldn’t work. I’m glad we’ve got the wood stove - I figure that will keep us warm enough to wait until it is safe enough to travel to family, friends or a hotel with power.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Winds right now are blowing at 35mph with gusts up to 45mph. I’m surprised the power is still on!
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Thanks, HopeandJoy♫, no problems. :^)
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Rmom, we do have a fireplace in the finished basement in an emergency.

Hi and Bye Doctor Toon.
LittleSister18 about 14 years ago
I’m checking in real quick to say hello. Now I got to get back and keep my great grandma company, so I’ll see you all later. Hopefully by turnover.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
Wolfie - That’s good to know. Even if you have to sleep all in one room to stay warm, at least you’ve got a way to do that, plus you can roast weiners and marshmallows.
Smiley Rmom about 14 years ago
I think a hot bath is calling my name. Good night!
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Good night, Rmom. Rest well!
George Arnold about 14 years ago
Good Night Rmom.
COWBOY7 about 14 years ago
Power has gone off and on three more times now but only for 5 minutes at a time or so. I honestly do feel sorry for those repair people that have to be out in the cold.
Ooops! Premium Member about 14 years ago
You turn off the power before you play with the wiring! You unplug things before you stick knives in them! Use your brain! Don’t fry it!
hopeandjoy2 about 14 years ago
OMG…..21 inches of snow. Good Grief, what a way to be #1 in our area. Have a Good Nite Ooops, Lonewolf, Sojo Little Sis
Lonewolf Your guardian angel needs a huge thank you from all the people who care about you.
