If you turned off the dome light and placed a heater set on a very low setting in your car. Plug the heater into an extension cord and then lock up as normal at night. Could you then plug the extension cord in when you get up to get ready in the morning and have your car at least partially defrosted when you had to leave? Or would it possibly cause cracked windows? I think it should be okay on a low setting but you might want to check on it.

Oooops!, If you had a heater with a thermostat that shuts off when it gets too hot, that would be safer. Still better–put it on a board or something to be sure it doesn’t light any fires. A low heat shouldn’t crack windows–any more than warming up the interior does when you are driving.

Plods with Beer said, about 4 temporal encounters ago

I thought meeting yourself in the past rips the space - time continuum.

Depends on the writer. Robert A. Heinlein wrote two short stories, “—All You Zombies—” and the earlier “By His Bootstraps”, and used these sort of themes in other works. He worked it so that the encounters played out naturally in each case–out of surprise or whatever, each version acted as needed to play out the encounter without changes.

David Gerrold wrote the novel The Man Who Folded Himself (1973) with self-encounters, but he got out of the problems by having multiple universes so that, when you meet yourself, a new history-timeline is created.

Hi & Bye, M’Lady! Hi, Ooops! There’s a reason why having a garage is a real plus. Thankfully, for the last 25+ years, I’ve been able to park under cover. Some people in KS have bought a remote starter for their vehicle, so they can start their cars to get it warmed up, without needing to get inside it first. (The vehicle will stay locked up, which helps prevent theft, as well.)

Oooops! - Having the dome light off is good if you’re trying to be sneaky. However, I do hear that it is wise to turn it on if you get stopped by law enforcement after dark.

I never think to turn it on when law enforcement stops me. But then I don’t open the door either. I’ve always had at least two usually three sets of car keys. So, if I was cognizant enough to think of warming up the car. I would leave one set in the car, lock the door and go inside for cold water to defrost the windows without all this scraping stuff once the inside had warmed up enough I knew the windows wouldn’t freeze right back up.

Sojo, I am back to gray skies and rain thank you very much. I am grateful to have temperatures below 20° be a Big Deal.

Has anyone considered the merits of a blowtorch? I hear they are awfully fun to use. You might want to try ‘helping’ someone defrost their car before you try it on your own. Just in case. It is good to be helpful.

Awhile ago some people were talking about keeping their cars covered. I don’t have a garage so I just cover the windsheild with a blanket. It isn’t perfect but it cuts down on the scraping. A lot of the time somebody would snicker at me for doing that but I didn’t mind. Later they would be scraping and chipping but I would just whip off the blanket aand go home.
