Regarding yesterday’s conversation: according to Wikipedia - which has an interview reference - O’Hare stopped Citizen Dog because he was too busy with other things and didn’t feel like he was giving it enough of his time. He had worked on multiple cartoons, not just Spongebob so he was probably getting overloaded. As much as I like the comic strip’s current content, I think it’s better that he quit rather than letting the quality drop. I almost stopped reading last year when there was several weeks of the same joke of Fergus being mean to Mel at a level that wasn’t funny and I think that’s probably what it would have wound up becoming if he’d kept going.
