stel ol’ bel, what you can’t see from those old ‘funny papers’ you posted is the incredible size of them in comparison to today’s papers.( modern papers are only 2/3 the size)they retained those huge sizes right into the seventies ,when after that, they gradually, little by little; so subtly that it wasn’t readily apparent, they shrunk to the size of today’s itty bitty flyers they call newspapers. I admit that the crisp and clear color photography is one excellent product of our times, though.
When I was a kid I looked forward each week to buying the New York daily News Sunday paper. the paper itself was a graphic tabloid of dubious content, but the funnies were page after page of wonderful adventures in riotous color laid out in a format that was like the tabloids of today which didn’t require the paper to be folded in half. After finishing the comics, I would move on to the magazine section that always had a wonderfully drawn caricature of some famous person.
My father used to tell everyone that I learned to read by sitting on his lap and reading the NY Daily news and the Boston Record-American with him, and I do remember that!
Good morning kids. It’s another hot and dry one today...I like the way Betty thinks. I bet if the electricity went out she could still ring orders AND give change..StelBel I think that is a little dragon? I think the green triangle over the first blue stripe is a wing?.No fireworks for us this year. It is soooo dry around here, they have fire hazard/danger flashing on all the road signs. Many municipalities have cancelled their firework displays this year. I hope they still do the downtown ones on the riverfront. SIGH…..
its late but i’m back. mom had problems. (therefore,so did i.)i got a new tv. (the one in my room died.)i found the green critter on an oriental site. (i think its a sleeping dragon.)my dishwasher died. (well, it is as old as the house.)my back door seems to be falling apart. (um…yea. sh**.)

I think noicant’s picture is a Y2K Bug! Giving us a wink and a “thumbs-up.”
When I was growing up we got both Vancouver newspapers. I got two full-sized Sunday comics each week!
