Coming Soon 👀 At the beginning of April, you’ll be
introduced to a brand-new GoComics! See more information here. Subscribers, check your
email for more details.
I’ll have to enjoy Stel’s poster sometime later. My Rocket Scientist is going to have total hip replacement in the morning, so maybe I’ll stop by later in the day.
Great poster Stel. I instantly recognized Lee Marbone, as well as Marlon Houndo. Are they on their way to tea with Susan, Michael and Mary? Maybe that is why Michael’s thought is being born prematurely.
My thoughts suddenly get side-tracked to that fan in the bleachers of Cleveland Municipal Stadium: MILD THING, I think I loathe you!…you didn’t think I’d abandon ya, did ya Vaughn?…You big piece of cow flop…
Yes, Dennis… we’re on the way to Michael and Mary’s…
hope you didn’t mean you’re not coming too.
Not just tea, but Mary’s making coffee, tuna sandwiches and blueberry cobbler… Michael is convinced those are all “brain food.”
Â
You know, I remember I had trouble finding a copydog human version of this poster, when Stel first ran it….
So I went back to see what I posted then.
Turns out I’d said everything I was thinking about it today.
Forgive me, but I’m going to rerun that comment now (slightly edited):
Â
Wow, Stel… nice job!
This film always has an air of forbidden fruit about it.
My Mom wouldn’t let me see any Marlon Houndo pictures when I was a kid… especially The Wild One!
I think she was afraid I would be influenced by his famed sexuality,
along with his bad attitude.
Funny, cos I never found him the least bit attractive…..
he seemed old, and his 1950’s slang was foreign. and dated.
Â
He was almost 30, and looked it, so he didn’t show quite the same vulnerability as, say, James Dean Dog, though both were portraying alienated youth.
But I know his influence, and that of this movie, was very strong on Howlywood and society….
I’m sure it paved the way for later films like “Basset Without a Cause.”.
Â
I wondered whether the humans remade this….
Apparently they tried…. with the same title, even…. what gall!
I didn’t find a similar poster….
But these two seem influenced by the basset version:
I just hope they don’t meet up with that evil cat down the street and his biker gang. There will be absolute chaos. That evil cat biker gang might also steal their kibble.
