I had always looked forward to jury duty but they didn’t pull my name til I was with out a car, and tryed to send me to an unsavory area that was too many buses away.
I’ve been called for jury duty numerous times, but was never picked, for some reason (probably too good-looking, is all I can figure). It always irritated me, as I would be paid my normal salary no matter how long the trial lasted - I had no financial worries in that regard. Always “Nope, you’re too good-looking, or something”, so back to work I would have to go.
My mom when us two kids where in school was called for jury duty and she got selected. Longest case ever lasted 6 months. This was about 40 years ago the case was a prisoner sueing for medical malpractice he won but not as much as he liked. After that she had two more cases and that ended. She won’t be serving anymore as she is still alive but too old now.
Me I served only one for check theft that a third party didn’t know was stolen checks a bank pushed for that. I work pt so I made more for jury duty then working.
My spouse served both state and federal.
And next year the local courthouse may have a tough time the court has to cut 8million from the budgets. Furlough for clerks for week per month for Feb til June. I think the paper has it for May 2 weeks furlough. No unemployement.
I’ve always enjoyed jury duty, especially civil cases. Most people think I’m crazy. My father was sued once over an auto accident that was clearly the other driver’s fault. His insurance company actually took the case all the way to trial. My mom sat through the entire case. Several times during the trial, even the judge was having a hard time keeping a straight face. After the jury found in favor of my father, my looks at me and said, “Now I understand why you enjoy jury duty!”
I’ve never been called for jury duty, though I think it would be an interesting experience if I could actually control when I would be able to do so rather than just get told to show up. Otherwise, I would have used some variation on the line Lewreader had: Why would they arrest him if he’s not guilty?
My sister was called for jury duty but she had an excuse: she was out of province at University.

I like jury duty, except for losing money if I can’t work, too.

You’ll be glad you picked me Your Honor,. I’m psychic.
Good thing you picked me. I can tell them by their beady eyes.
Do we get to fry the guy.
Why would they arrest him if he’s not guilty?
Is there a drug store near. I need my medication.
Power to the people.

I just ask the bailiff “Which side do the white folks sit on?” that usually gets me sent on my way.
