Mom: Hi, baby.. Mrs. Angelini told me you were asking about your dad today. Heart: Yeah, mom, I was wondering... Why did daddy leave us? Mom: Well.. back when you were just born, your daddy decided he no longer wanted to be a part of our lives. It's nobody's fault, mind you, It's just that he didn't feel right staying with us, which was definitely for the best. Well, I was very sad in the hospital after you were born, when a nurse there gave me this poem... Heart: A mother holds her child's hand for a while... Her heart forever. Mom: And that's how you got your name! No matter what happens, you'll always be my Heart! Heart: Just hold that thought until after you see my report card.

I wish there were more comics like Tatulli’s early (1998-2004) Heart strips. I love them. Does anyone know any comics/manga like them?

I liked that during the golden age of Heart of the City, even though Heart was definitely precocious, there were still a lot of times where she (and Dean and Kat too) felt like a real child (like this story arc). It made the whole strip feel more genuine, even if it was always meant to be a bit of an exaggerated satire. I feel like that was lost as the strip went on, and Heart and Dean started to act and talk more and more like adults and became bigger vehicles for satire.
