Yeah, but in “Sambo” the tigers were chasing Sambo around a tree, not their tails (or at least they thought they were). By the way, this story explains where Tiger Butter comes from.
I became a C & H fan late of the publications in the newspapers, so when it was discontinued, I bought books. Then I discovered this website, and I get my daily “fix.”
This one is in my top ten C & H Sunday strips. Why? For all the right reasons, not least being the sardonic line ending with, “…your tail still has a death grip on your butt.”

If you feel like chasing something, Hobbes, Calvin’s standing right there. You like pouncing on him, don’t you?

Chasing your tail isn’t bad, but when your tail starts chasing you, it’s then that you know you’re in trouble.

p.s. - a good story teller is always chasing a tale.

In “little black sambo” the tyger turned into butter. Hobbes turned dizzy.

the 4th panel from the end almost looks like the tail is after Hobbes, I’m sure glad I found this cause I sure know I’ve missed C&H!!!

I’ve known times I would have liked the bed to stop spinning so I could get off.

This one’s great. The “death grip” line made me laugh.
