wolfbyte, i remember maturity being defined as ‘the ability to listen to the William Tell Overture without thinking of The Lone Ranger’ but i’ve never quite managed to do that. Who was that masked man?
When I was a young lad, a favorite game around the corrals was to find someone bending over the loading chutes and acquaint them with the business end of a Hot Shot.

Yes, such a self-satisfied look knowing he got one over on Hobbes. I also love the drawing detail, with his hand going from a gun in the first panel to obviously holding a cylindrical object in the third panel. Kudos Bill Watterson.
ROFL
To Leonardeuler:
From Wikipedia:
A cattle prod, also called a stock prod, is a handheld device commonly used to make cattle or other livestock move by striking or poking them, or in the case of a Hot-Shot-type prod, through a relatively high-voltage, low-current electric shock
Leonardeuler, a cattle prod or “hot Shot” is a battery operated shocking device used to move cattle along when they are in confined areas. They vary in shape and size, and deliver a non-lethal electrical charge when pressed against the animal. As a kid, we used to have great fun zapping one another with them.

Zap! Huh? That should be transmogrify to make Hobbes changing to something else……
Good catch there Wildmustang! Now we know what the ultra top secret moto drive of the transmogrifier is.
Old west revolvers varied in capacity.
There were the old single shot breach loaders.
The five shot revolvers.
The six shooters really made way for the side arms.
I’m surprised Calvin didn’t raise his other arm and say he was using his other six shooter ….
Yes Wiseguy411–explained in second panel (where Calvin is the rustler and Hobbes the “good” cowboy).
Or (for Comic-Nut) he could easily have pulled out a boot-gun (wee single-shot pistol), but I guess he didn’t think it apt as those aren’t ABF cowboy boots (well, he could have imagined his shoes were cowboy boots, right?)
(I remember at a church I used to attend, the associate-pastor’s son almost always wore cowboy boots–and termed them “army boots”–to service)

Calvin: I know what you’re thinking. Did I fire 5 shots, or 6? In all the commotion, I lost track too. You’ve got to ask yourself. You feeling lucky, Punk? Well, are you?
Hobbes: NO! You’ve got a cattle prod. I’m not that lucky.
