I was laid off from a sinking ship after 17.5 years. It lost a government contract and subsequently sank. Had to take SSA a few years earlier (at 65 1/2) than I’d planned, after 6 mos of unemployment ran out with no reasonable job prospects) but it’s been great! Still not bored after 2 1/2 years of doing whatever I want (within reason) whenever I want.
I quit from a sinking ship after the junior partner “retired” then took a job with a former employee’s company in a lesser position. Company was bought out and THEN went OUT. I found another company (small tho’) I thought was great only to be laid off at the same time he gave me a good Christmas bonus. He was replacing me 1st of the year with a guy just because he had a PE stamp (I saw by the website that HE didn’t even last a year-probably padded his resume). It pays to be honest.

I was forced into early retirement from a sinking ship. It’s now been swallowed up by another company after it had done all the swallowing previously.
