    Actually, it is. Revere and the others would have said, “The regulars are coming.” At this period of history, Americans was what the natives were called. The colonists considered themselves to be British. Paul Revere wasn’t successful, anyway. He was arrested and his horse was confiscated. Others got the message through to Lexington and Concord.

    Actually, Longfellow said, among other details, that William Dawes rode also, but his name didn’t have as many rhymes, so he used Revere. Another rider was Samuel Prescott.

    Revere does indeed rhyme better.
