Can there be anything but a bittersweet ending to this storyline? If Byrd still wants to marry Gertie, she’ll leave Walt. If Byrd has moved on, Gertie wil be devastated.
I guess she could marry Byrd, but stay on with Walt as Byrd tours, but GA seems too traditional for a long-distance marriage.
I’m sure the next story is already at the syndicate, but I would like to see what Chipper is up to… he was in the medical field, but even he is nearing retirement age!
I guess this story line’s ulterior motive is that we’ll eventually forget that Gertie has neglected Walt, thus Walt slides out of GA unheralded at the age of 120.
