I had a caged finch many years ago. I decided to free him if he wanted to leave. I opened the cage door next to the window. He (clumsily at first) flew away. I left the cage with the open door by the open window for a week. He never returned.
if he comes back it’s because a predator didn’t get him first. a lot of the birds sold as pets are bred in captivity and have no idea how to survive in the wild.
